This part is Part 1 of GB/T 34044.

This part was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This part is identical to ISO 22400-1:2014 Automation systems and integration - Key performance indicators (KPIs) for manufacturing operations management - Part 1: Overview, concepts and terminology, by the translation method.

The following editorial change has been made in this part:

- the numbering error in Clause 2 of the original international standard has been corrected from '2.1.1 to 2.1.9' to '2.1 to 2.9'.

Introduction

Key performance indicators (KPIs) for manufacturing operations management (MOM) can be used to improve the value creation processes of an enterprise.

Enterprises quantify the various aspects of their activities by measuring performance. GB/T 34044 focuses on the performance measures that are valuable for improving operational performance. These performance measures can be obtained by combining various business measurement results to form key performance indicators (abbreviated as KPIs). Performance monitoring is directed only at the objectives determined by the enterprise, and KPI values can be used to determine trends related to certain business objectives.

Within an enterprise, the various business areas, such as sales, manufacturing, engineering, marketing and other business support functions, have different performance indicators. These different performance indicators are used together to monitor the achievement of the business objectives of the enterprise.

A national standard for key performance indicators facilitates the comparison of the operations of an enterprise over long periods of time, and the comparison with similar operations of other enterprises in the industry.

The management of manufacturing operations is usually associated with the intermediate levels of the functional hierarchy of a manufacturing enterprise. In IEC 62264-1 Enterprise-control system integration - Part 1: Models and terminology, the manufacturing operations management (abbreviated as MOM) domain is the intermediate domain between the enterprise domain (Level 4) and the control domain (Level 1 and Level 2).

The KPIs defined in this part are calculated from the data of the control domain and provide decision support information for managing the enterprise to the enterprise domain and the MOM domain.

Part 1 of GB/T 34044 introduces the overview, concepts and terminology of KPIs. Part 2 covers the guiding principles for calculating and measuring KPI components. The other parts of GB/T 34044 will cover the content and context definitions for the exchange and use of KPIs, the specification of relationships, the dependencies between KPIs, and the maturity of KPI collection and use.

1 Scope

This part of GB/T 34044 specifies an industry-neutral framework for defining, organizing, exchanging and using key performance indicators (KPIs). These KPIs are used at the manufacturing operations management level of the batch, continuous and discrete industries as defined in IEC 62264-1.

This part:

- provides an overview of KPIs;

- introduces the concepts related to KPIs, including the criteria for constructing a KPI;

- specifies the terminology related to KPIs;

- describes how KPIs are used.
