GB/T 33484-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering testing the fixed foam system that protects a ship's machinery space or tanker deck — the general and safety requirements, the classification into balanced-pressure and positive- or negative-pressure systems at high, medium and low expansion, the test of the installed foam device, the preliminary test at the operating station, the foam concentrate delivery test, the drainage of the area where liquid is released, and the test report. The scope covers offshore platforms as well as ships. Issued on 30 June 2025, it has been in force since 1 January 2026, replacing GB/T 33484-2017.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 33484-2017 "Test methods for fixed foam fire-fighting systems for ships" and is consistent with GB/T 33484-2017.
In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) The scope of application of the standard has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2017 edition);
b) Added a chapter on “Normative References” (see Chapter 2);
c) Added a chapter on “Terms and Definitions” (see Chapter 3);
d) Deleted the relevant requirements for test procedures (see 2.2 of the 2017 edition);
e) The composition of the foam fire extinguishing system has been changed (see 4.1, 2.1 of the 2017 edition);
f) The requirement for foam fire extinguishing systems to be equipped with remote control valves has been modified (see 5.1, 3.2 of the 2017 edition);
g) The description of the main power supply and emergency power supply has been changed (see 5.6, 3.7 of the 2017 edition);
h) Added classification requirements for foam fire extinguishing systems (see 6.1);
i) The composition of the installed foam device test has been changed (see 6.2, 4.2 of the 2017 edition);
j) The equipment composition of the preliminary test of the operation station has been changed (see 7.3, 5.3 of the 2017 edition);
k) Changed the operational requirements for drainage systems in areas where liquids are released (see 8.4.4, 6.4.5 of the 2017 edition);
l) The content of the foam liquid delivery test has been changed (see 8.6.6, 6.6.6 of the 2017 edition).

1 Scope
This document describes the general requirements, safety requirements, test procedures, and procedures for testing fixed foam fire-fighting systems for ships (hereinafter referred to as “foam fire-fighting systems”).
Test overview, pre-test preparation, test content, and test report.
This document applies to balanced and pressure (positive and negative pressure) high, medium and low expansion foam fire extinguishing systems installed on ships and offshore platforms The test.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB.20031-2024 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 foam
A collection of air-filled bubbles formed from a foamy solution.
3.2 Foam concentrate
A concentrated liquid that forms a foam solution when mixed with water at an appropriate concentration.
Note. Foam liquid is also called foam concentrate.
4 General Requirements
4.1 The foam fire extinguishing system should consist of a foam fire extinguishing device (pressure foam tank or foam liquid storage tank, foam liquid pump, foam proportioning mixer, balancing valve, Safety valve, foam distribution system pipeline and its pipeline valve parts), electric or manual release valve, foam nozzle, foam spray, foam generator, foam The foam gun consists of a cannon, a foam gun hose reel device, and electrical control equipment.
4.2 If any abnormality occurs in the control valve, water source, foam liquid pump, valve or control equipment, or foam spraying equipment during the test, the test should be stopped.
After finding the cause of the abnormality of these components, repairing or replacing the components, restart the test.
4.3 If the mechanical joints of the piping system can be repaired on site during the test, the test should not be stopped.
4.4 If a test fails, the cause of the failure should be identified and repaired before restarting the test.
5 Security Requirements
5.1 If the foam fire extinguishing system is equipped with a remote control valve, the control valve shall be opened or closed as required during each test.
