This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This Standard replaces GB/T 3327-1997 "Furniture - Main sizes of cabinets". 1 Scope

China's national standard for the principal dimensions of storage furniture. It specifies the codes and the main sizes, and it applies to the design and production of wardrobes, bedside tables, bookcases and filing cabinets, with other storage units able to refer to it. It replaces GB/T 3327-1997, and the changes are almost all deletions: the requirements for ground-off size, for drawer depth, for small cabinet sizes and for size limit deviations are all removed, while the drawer size diagram, the bedside table diagram and requirements, and the net height of a bookcase shelf are revised. The pattern is the same as in the companion standards for tables, chairs and beds issued on the same day, and it reflects a deliberate narrowing of what a dimensional standard is for. The 1997 editions tried to specify furniture completely - the size, the tolerance on the size, and a range of secondary dimensions - and that made them constraints on what could be built rather than guidance on what should be. This edition keeps the dimensions that follow from the human body and from what is being stored, and lets everything else go. The bookcase shelf height is the clearest example of what survives: it is set by the height of books, and a shelf that will not take a standard hardback is a defect no styling can redeem. The wardrobe hanging height and the bedside table height relative to a bed are of the same kind - determined by what they hold and by the person using them, not by the designer. This Standard specifies the codes, main sizes of storage units. This Standard is applicable to the design and production of wardrobes, bedside tables, bookcases, filing cabinets. Other storage units may refer to this Standard for implementation.
