Foreword

This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This Standard replaces GB/T 3326-1997 "Furniture - Main sizes of tables and chairs". Compared with GB/T 3326-1997, the main technical changes are as follows: - modified the codes of tables, chairs and stools (see Clause 2 of this Edition, Clause 2 of Edition 1997); - added the size requirements for table top height, seat height, difference between intermediate clearance height and chair stool seat top height in matching height difference (see

1 Scope

China's national standard for the principal dimensions of tables, chairs and stools. It specifies the codes and the main sizes, and it applies to the design and manufacture of these products. It replaces GB/T 3326-1997 and its scope has been widened from tables and chairs to include stools. The changes in this edition are the kind that come from measuring people again. Size requirements are added for table top height, seat height and the difference between the clearance height beneath a table and the seat top height of the chair or stool that goes with it - that last one being the dimension that decides whether a person can sit at a table comfortably, and the one most often got wrong when a table and a chair are designed by different people. The armrest internal width, seat depth and back length of armchairs are revised, as are the front width, seat depth and back length of back rest chairs and of folding chairs, and the side length or diameter of square and round stools. The cabinet foot heights of single and double pedestal desks are deleted, the height of a dressing table mirror above the floor is revised, and the size limit deviations that the 1997 edition specified are removed throughout. That last deletion is the structural change: the standard now gives the sizes furniture should be and leaves the manufacturing tolerance to the product standards, which is where it belongs. Issued on 13 December 2016 and in force since 1 July 2017.

This Standard specifies the main sizes of tables, chairs and stools. This Standard is applicable to the design and production of double cabinet table, single cabinet table, dressing table (dresser), single-layer table, armchair, back rest chair, folding chair, rectangular stool, square stool, round stool. Other tables, chairs and stools may refer to this Standard for implementation.
