GB/T 31437-2015 specifies the air-to-air heat exchanger units used for ventilation and air conditioning, covering the terms and definitions, the classification and marking, the general requirements, the requirements proper, the test methods, the inspection rules, the marking, packaging, transportation and storage, and the basic content of the random technical documents.

Clause 1 states that it applies to the units that take cold outdoor air as the cold source and cool the indoor air by indirect heat exchange between indoor and outdoor air, by bringing the outdoor air directly into the room, or by combining those two methods in a single unit.

Clause 3 defines the unit itself and then separates the direct heat exchange type, in which supply and exhaust fans move the air and the outdoor air is filtered and, after low temperature treatment, discharged directly into the room, from the indirect heat exchange type, in which indoor and outdoor air are moved by fans and exchange heat through a heat exchanger.

Four normative appendices give test methods for the air flow, the total pressure and the input power, for internal leakage, for the rated heat exchange and for the dust holding capacity of the unit, although the draft prints the titles of the last two with the words out of order.

Clause 2 cites nine documents, among them GB 755 on rotary motors, GB/T 1236-2000 on the performance testing of industrial fans, GB 4706.1-2005 on the safety of household and similar electrical appliances, GB/T 9068-1988 on the sound power level of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, GB 10080 on air conditioning fan safety, GB/T 14295-2008 on air filters, and the two YD/T documents on flame retardant flexible cables and on constant temperature and humidity air conditioning systems for communications rooms.

The foreword records that the standard was proposed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China and is centralized by the National HVAC and purification equipment Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC143).

The draft published on the page breaks off inside the definition of the indirect heat exchange type, so the requirements, the test methods and the inspection rules themselves cannot be read. It was issued on 15 May 2015 and has applied since 1 December 2015.
