Clause 3 requires reagents recognised as of analytical grade and distilled or deionised water or water of equivalent purity, and lists 30 mL platinum, silver, porcelain and Teflon crucibles and a porcelain cupel of 120 mm by 60 mm by 14 mm.

Clause 4 lists the apparatus: a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, an atomic absorption spectrophotometer with a flame atomisation device, a muffle furnace covering room temperature to 900 degrees C that can heat at 5 degrees C per minute and hold 550 plus or minus 10 degrees C with five to ten air changes a minute, a high-temperature furnace holding 1000 plus or minus 10 degrees C, an analytical balance reading to 0.1 mg, an electric hot plate with a thermostat whose surface stays below 300 degrees C, and a further thermostatted furnace rated 220 V and 1 kW that also stays below 300 degrees C. Clause 5, ash sample preparation, spreads not more than 0.15 g of sample per square centimetre in the ash pan, ashes it by the procedure laid down in GB/T 28731, grinds the ash below 0.1 mm in an agate mortar and calcines it again at 550 plus or minus 10 degrees C for at least 30 min until the change in mass is not more than 0.1 per cent; the draft breaks off inside this clause, so none of the determination procedures themselves is shown.

It was proposed by the China Coal Industry Association and is kept by the National Coal Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC42), under ICS 75.160.10 and Chinese classification D21, with about 17,113 words estimated.

It was issued on 9 June 2014 and has applied since 1 October 2014; the page does not say which edition it replaces.
