GB/T 27534.8-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering surveying a rabbit breed so that it can be entered in the national genetic resource record — the coat colour, coat density and body conformation recorded on live animals, the adult body weight, body length, chest circumference and ear dimensions, the meat, wool, pelt and reproductive performance, the number of animals that must be measured for each of them, and the survey form and archive that outlive the surveyor. Part 8 of the series. It replaces GB/T 27534.8-2011, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In force from 1 November 2025. Issued on 25 April 2025, it has been in force since 1 November 2025, replacing GB/T 27534.8-2011.

This document replaces GB/T 27534.8-2011 "Technical Specifications for Survey of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Part 8: Rabbits" and is consistent with GB/T Compared with 27534.8-2011, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

a) The overview of genetic resources has been changed (see 6.1, 4.1 of the 2011 edition);

b) The body size and weight of adult rabbits were changed (see 6.3.1, 4.3.1 of the 2011 edition);

c) The meat production performance test indicators have been changed (see 6.3.2, 4.3.2 of the 2011 edition);

d) The wool production performance, wool quality and hide production performance measurement indicators have been changed (see 6.3.3, 6.3.4, 6.3.5, 4.3.3 of the 2011 edition);

e) The reproductive performance test indicators have been changed (see 6.3.6, 4.3.4 of the 2011 edition);

f) Added survey methods (see Chapter 7);

g) The number of adult female rabbits in the body shape and appearance survey has been changed (see 7.2.1, 4.2.1 of the 2011 edition);

h) Increased the number of surveys on body shape, body size and weight, meat production performance, wool production performance, wool quality, skin production performance, and reproductive performance (see 7.2.1, 7.3.1, 7.4.1, 7.5.1, 7.6.1, 7.7.1, 7.8.1);

i) Deleted the species photos (see Chapter 5 of the 2011 edition);

j) Records and archives management has been modified (see Chapter 8, Chapter 6 of the 2011 edition);

k) The rabbit genetic resources survey form (see Appendix A, 2011 Edition) has been modified.

Introduction

Livestock and poultry genetic resources are important strategic resources for maintaining national ecological security and agricultural security, and are the material basis for the high-quality development of animal husbandry.

Conducting livestock and poultry genetic resource surveys is a statutory duty stipulated in the Animal Husbandry Law of the People’s Republic of China and is an important task in approving new livestock and poultry breeds (supporting lines) and identifying The basic requirements for identifying new genetic resources, formulating livestock and poultry genetic resource protection and utilization plans and livestock and poultry genetic resource protection lists, and engaging in breeding livestock and poultry production and management, etc.

GB/T 27534 "Technical Specifications for Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Survey" aims to standardize and guide the investigation of livestock and poultry genetic resources. It consists of eleven parts.

— Part 1: General Principles. The purpose is to provide general survey rules for livestock and poultry genetic resources surveys.

— Part 2: Pig. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of pig genetic resources.

— Part 3: Cattle. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of cattle genetic resources.

— Part 4: Sheep. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of sheep genetic resources.

— Part 5: Goats. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of goat genetic resources.

— Part 6: Horses and donkeys. The purpose is to standardize the survey content and methods of horse and donkey genetic resources.

It should include weight, body length, chest circumference, ear length and ear width.
