Scope

GB/T 2664-2017 is the English-translated version of 男西服、大衣.

China's national product standard for men's suits and coats. It specifies the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage of tailored men's suits, jackets, trousers and overcoats. A tailored jacket is the most complex garment in ordinary production. It has a canvassed or fused front with an internal structure the wearer never sees, a shoulder and sleeve head that has to be shaped rather than merely joined, a collar and lapel that must roll rather than fold, and a set of internal tapes and stays that hold the shape when the cloth would rather relax. Because so much of it is structure, the standard has to specify things that a shirt standard does not: the interlining and the fusing and their bond strength before and after dry cleaning, the resistance to bubbling and delamination on the front and the lapel, the shoulder and sleeve setting, the symmetry of the two halves of a garment that is worn open, and the behaviour of the whole assembly after cleaning. The fabric side is equally particular. A suit is normally wool or a wool blend, so the requirements include the composition and the tolerance on it, the colour fastness including to dry cleaning rather than only to washing, the dimensional change under steam pressing as well as under cleaning, and the pilling and abrasion resistance of a cloth that is worn daily. The standard also fixes the finished measurement tolerances against the size designation, the matching of pattern across the fronts, the pockets and the sleeves, the defect grading and the sampling by which a lot is accepted. Issued on 29 December 2017 and in force since 1 July 2018, it replaces GB/T 2664-2009.

1 Scope

This standard specifies the requirements of men's suits and coats, inspection methods, inspection rules, and signs, packaging, transportation and storage. This standard applies to pure wool, wool blended and interwoven, wool-like fabric as the main fabric for the production of men's suits and coats and other wool category clothing. This standard does not apply to infants and young children aged 36 months and under clothing.
