Principle 3
Homologs of phenol and phenol with sodium hydroxide and generated phenol, phenol soluble in sodium lye, oil-insoluble, phenol can be calculated based on the incremental lye content.
4 Reagents
4.1 Sodium chloride (or anhydrous sodium sulfate)
AR. Sodium chloride required at 400 °C, burning 1h dehydration.
4.2 Sodium hydroxide
10% solution, and saturated sodium chloride.
4.3 Toluene
AR.
