Scope
GB/T 23857-2009 is the English-translated version of 生活垃圾填埋场降解治理的监测与检测.
GB/T 23857-2009 fixes the monitoring programme and the test methods used on municipal solid waste landfills that are undergoing degradation treatment.
Clause 1 states that it specifies the monitoring programme and detection methods for the landfill body, landfill gas, groundwater and leachate, and that it applies to the degradation treatment of municipal solid waste landfills.
Clause 3 defines the landfill body as the buried and covered stack formed by collecting together the various types of waste, and defines the activity of accelerating the decomposition of the waste components in a landfill by physical, chemical, biological and other means in order to stabilise that body.

Appendix C is normative, while appendices A and B are informative. The standard was proposed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, is administered by the ministry's urban environmental health standardization focal point, and the foreword records it as a first release. It was issued on 27 May 2009 and has applied since 1 February 2010.
