Scope
GB/T 23778-2009 is the English-translated version of 酒类及其他食品包装用软木塞.
GB/T 23778-2009 is the product standard for cylindrical cork stoppers used in alcohol and food packaging.
Clause 1 states that it specifies the terms and definitions, product classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and signs, packaging, transportation and storage for corks for liquor and other food packaging, and that it applies to the corks used in the containers that package alcoholic beverages and other foods; the page records no exclusions.
The table of contents shows an Introduction followed by eight clauses: Scope, Normative references, Terms and definitions, Product Category, Requirement, Test Method, inspection rules, and signs, packaging, transportation and storage.
Clause 3 carries five entries, and the draft prints their definitions without the term names, so they can only be described: the bark taken from a cork oak once the cork layer formed in that bark has reached a certain age and thickness; a stopper made from cork particles by bulk polymerisation and used to plug bottles or other containers; a stopper processed from one cork or from two or more; a natural stopper of poor quality and appearance whose surface is evenly coated with a mixture of cork powder and a binder so that the surface defects and holes are filled; and a stopper whose body is polymerised and which carries one or two discs of natural cork pasted at one or at both ends, usually written as 0+1, 0+2, 1+1 or 2+2.
Clause 2 cites GB/T 601, GB/T 2828.1, GB/T 4789.2, GB/T 4789.15 and GB/T 4789.28.
The foreword states that the standard was proposed by the China National Institute of Standardization and that the drafting units include the National Wine and Liquor, Liqueur Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center and Yantai Kylin Packaging Co. The draft on the page breaks off at the end of clause 3, so the content of the classification, requirement, test method and inspection clauses is not shown. It was issued on 18 May 2009 and has applied since 1 December 2009.
