Scope
GB/T 23599-2025 is the English-translated version of 草菇菌种.
GB/T 23599-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the spawn from which Volvariella volvacea is grown — the parent, original and cultivated stock and now the liquid stock as well, the sensory requirements for each and the container specifications, the tests for angular sectoring and for the high-temperature inhibition line that betray a culture already damaged, the inspection and judgement rules, and the marking, packaging, transport and storage. The 2025 edition drops the microbiological, electrophoresis and ITS sequence requirements and adds liquid stock. It replaces GB/T 23599-2009, under the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives. In force from 1 January 2026. Issued on 30 June 2025, it has been in force since 1 January 2026, replacing GB/T 23599-2009.

a) Added the terms and definitions of aerial hyphae, chlamydospores, primordia, biological efficiency and liquid culture (see 3.4 to 3.8);
b) The sensory requirements for mother stocks, solid stock and cultivars have been changed (see 4.1.2, 4.2.1.2 and 4.3.2, 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 of the 2009 edition). and 4.3.2);
c) The microbiological requirements for parent stocks, original stocks and cultivars have been deleted (see 4.1.3, 4.2.3 and 4.3.3 of the 2009 edition);
d) Deleted the electrophoresis pattern characteristics of mycelial soluble proteins, electrophoresis method and PDY medium formula in the electrophoresis method (see 2009 4.1.6, 5.4 and Appendix C of the IEEE International Standards and Regulations (2003);
e) Deleted ITS (internal transcribed spacer) sequence characteristics, analysis methods and analysis methods (see 4.1.7, 5.5 and Appendix of the 2009 edition) D);
f) The container specifications for solid stock seeds and cultivated seeds have been changed (see 4.2.1.1, 4.3.1, 4.2.1, 4.3.1 of the 2009 edition);
g) Added liquid stock (see 4.2.2);
h) The test method has been changed (see Chapter 5, Chapter 5 of the 2009 edition);

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 12728 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 [Source. GB/T 12728-2006, 2.3.21, modified]
The phenomenon that colonies with different genetic genes inhibit each other to produce no-growth zones or form linear edges of different forms.
3.2 Angular sectoring
The phenomenon that the mycelium becomes thinner, grows slowly, and has abnormal angular surface features due to local mutation of the mycelium or infection by a virus.
[Source. GB/T 12728-2006, 2.5.17]
3.3 high-temperature line
High temperature suppression line During the cultivation process, edible fungi are adversely affected by high temperature and insufficient ventilation, and the culture appears to be ring-shaped yellow, dark, or the mycelium becomes thinner. Weak phenomenon.
