Scope
GB/T 23522-2023 is the English-translated version of 再生锗原料.
GB/T 23522-2023 is the Chinese national standard for recycled germanium raw materials. It specifies their classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transport and storage, together with the accompanying documents and the content of the order form.
It applies to the reusable germanium-bearing materials that arise from the production, processing and use of germanium, which serve as feedstock for high-purity germanium tetrachloride, high-purity germanium dioxide, zone-melted germanium ingots and germanium single crystals.
Clause 4 divides them by origin into metallic and compound recycled germanium raw materials and lists their main sources, and a normative annex gives the potassium iodate titration method for germanium content.
It cites GB/T 1480, GB/T 8170 and parts 2 to 5 of GB/T 23513. It replaces GB/T 23522-2009 and GB/T 23523-2009, was issued on 7 September 2023 and has applied since 1 April 2024.

Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 23522-2009 "Recycled Germanium Raw Materials" and GB/T 23523-2009 "Method for Determination of Germanium in Recycled Germanium Raw Materials". This document is based on GB/T 23522-2009 and integrates the contents of GB/T 23523-2009.
Compared with GB/T 23522-2009, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
a) Changed the scope (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2009 edition);
b) Added a "Terms and Definitions" chapter (see Chapter 3);
c) Changed the expression of classification and added classification and main sources (see Chapter 4, 3.1 of the 2009 edition);
d) Delete the requirements and determination of chromium content in primary solid recycled germanium raw materials (see 3.1.1 and 4.5 of the 2009 edition);
e) Delete the requirements for the grade of raw solid recycled germanium raw materials (see 3.1.1 of the 2009 edition);
f) Delete the requirements for radioactive substances in recycled germanium raw materials (see 3.5 of the 2009 edition);
g) The expressions of appearance quality and particle size have been changed, and the test methods for particle size and appearance quality have been added (see 5.1.2, 5.1.3, 6.6, 6.7, 2009 version 3.2, 3.3, 3.4);
h) The expression of moisture in the chemical composition of raw solid recycled germanium raw materials is deleted, and the elements are specified separately (see 5.1.4 and 5.2.4, Table 1 of the 2009 edition);
i) Added technical requirements for combined regenerated germanium raw materials (see 5.2);
j) Added test methods for fluorine and sulfur (see 6.4 and 6.5);
k) The moisture test method has been changed (see 6.8, 4.1 of the 2009 edition);
l) Changed the requirements for the purchaser to accept the received products (see 7.1.2, 5.1.2 of the 2009 version);
m) Changed the time for the purchaser to report to the supplier when the inspection results after receiving the product are inconsistent with the standards (see 7.1.2, 2009 version 5.1.2);
n) Changed the subdivision regulations for batches (see 7.2, 5.2 of the 2009 version);
o) Added the requirement that special grade products with a germanium content greater than 99% may not be tested (see 7.3);
p) The contents of sampling and sample preparation have been changed (see 7.4, 5.4 of the 2009 edition);
q) The judgment of inspection results has been changed (see 7.5, 5.5 of the 2009 version);
r) The batch weight requirements for measurement deviations have been changed, and the requirements for marking, packaging, etc. have been adjusted (see Chapter 8, Chapter 6 of the 2019 edition);
s) Added Appendix A (Normative) Potassium iodate titration method for determination of germanium content in recycled germanium raw materials.
1 Scope
This document specifies the classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, storage, and accompanying documents of recycled germanium raw materials and order form contents, etc.
This document applies to recyclable recycled germanium raw materials generated from the production, processing and use of germanium.
Note: Regenerated germanium raw materials are mainly used as raw materials for the production of high-purity germanium tetrachloride, high-purity germanium dioxide, zone melted germanium ingots, germanium single crystals and other products.
