Scope
GB/T 23169-2019 is the English-translated version of 发制品 教习头.
China's national product standard for training mannequin heads. It specifies the terms and definitions, the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the labelling, packaging, transport and storage, and it applies to mannequin heads used for hairdressing training. A training head is the tool every hairdresser learns on, and it is a real product with a specification because a bad one teaches the wrong thing. The hair has to behave like hair under the operations a student is learning: it must cut cleanly and hold a line, take a perm and a colour and respond to them as hair does, survive repeated washing and blow-drying, and comb without matting after all of that. A head whose hair mats after the second wash cannot be used to practise cutting, and one whose fibre does not take colour cannot be used to teach colouring at all - which is why the material is specified rather than left to the maker, and why heads are made in human hair, in synthetic fibre and in blends for different parts of the syllabus. The head itself has requirements of its own: the density and distribution of the implanted hair, which has to approximate a real head or the student learns wrong section weights; the implantation strength, since hair that pulls out under a comb is useless; the shape and proportions; the hardness of the base, which has to take a pin and hold it; and the mounting for a clamp. The safety and chemical requirements apply because the head is handled continuously and treated with the same chemicals a client would be. Issued and in force since 18 October 2019, it replaces GB/T 23169-2008.
