Scope

GB/T 22756-2017 is the English-translated version of 皮凉鞋.

A sandal is a shoe with most of its upper cut away, and that is precisely what makes it hard to build. Every strap that survives the cutting carries load that a closed upper would have spread across the whole vamp, so the anchorage of a strap into the sole, the stitching that holds it and the bond line along the bottom edge are all working near their limit while the foot is bare, sweating and moving. The foot also touches far more of the shoe directly than it does in a closed style, which turns the dyes in the lining and the free formaldehyde and aromatic amines in the leather into a skin-contact question rather than a laboratory abstraction. GB/T 22756 sets the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and packaging, transport and storage provisions for leather sandals and leather sandal boots made by cementing, stitching, compression moulding, vulcanising, injection moulding or pouring, with uppers of natural leather, artificial or synthetic leather, textile or a combination of materials. It covers adult footwear only; sandals for infants and children are deliberately excluded and are governed elsewhere.

Foreword

GB/T 22756-2017 was issued on 12 May 2017 by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China and the Standardization Administration of China, and came into force on 1 December 2017. It is classified under ICS 61.060 and Chinese Standard Classification code Y 78. It replaces GB/T 22756-2008.

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB/T 22756-2008, Leather sandals. Compared with GB/T 22756-2008 the main technical changes are as follows: sandal boots have been added to the scope and leather sandals (including sandal boots) worn by infants and children have been excluded; Clause 3, Terms and definitions, has been added; classification by manufacturing process has been added to the product classification of Clause 4 (see 4.4); a requirement on the judgement of after-sales quality has been added to the general requirements (see 5.1); the content on sensory quality has been revised in 5.2; a requirement on odour has been added (see 5.3) and a corresponding test method for odour has been added to the test methods (see 6.2); the index requirements for the flexing resistance of the finished shoe and the cases in which the test is waived have been revised in 5.4.1; the index requirements for peel strength and the cases in which the test is waived have been revised in 5.4.3; a performance requirement for the abrasion resistance of the heel top piece of leather sandals has been added (see 5.4.11) together with the corresponding test method (see 6.13); the index requirement for the heel hardness of the moulded bottom has been revised in 5.4.5 and the corresponding test method has been revised in 6.7; the performance requirement for the shank and the cases in which the test is waived have been revised in 5.4.8; the index requirement for the rubbing colour fastness of linings and insocks has been revised in 5.4.10; the test method for the pull-off strength of the straps has been revised in 6.6; the test method for the bond strength between outsole and outer midsole has been revised in 6.8; the inspection items and the judgement of results have been revised in Clause 7; Clause 8 has been changed so that the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage are carried out in accordance with QB/T 1187; the content on the judgement of after-sales quality has been revised in Annex A; and the list of harmful aromatic amines has been revised in Annex B.

1 Scope

A sandal is a shoe with most of its upper cut away, and that is precisely what makes it hard to build. Every strap that survives the cutting carries load that a closed upper would have spread across the whole vamp, so the anchorage of a strap into the sole, the stitching that holds it and the bond line along the bottom edge are all working near their limit while the foot is bare, sweating and moving. The foot also touches far more of the shoe directly than it does in a closed style, which turns the dyes in the lining and the free formaldehyde and aromatic amines in the leather into a skin-contact question rather than a laboratory abstraction. GB/T 22756 sets the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and packaging, transport and storage provisions for leather sandals and leather sandal boots made by cementing, stitching, compression moulding, vulcanising, injection moulding or pouring, with uppers of natural leather, artificial or synthetic leather, textile or a combination of materials. It covers adult footwear only; sandals for infants and children are deliberately excluded and are governed elsewhere.

This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and the packaging, transport and storage of leather sandals manufactured by cementing, stitching, compression moulding, vulcanising, injection moulding, pouring and similar processes, with uppers made of natural leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, textile materials or a combination of several materials.

This standard applies to leather sandals (including sandal boots) worn by adults. It does not apply to leather sandals (including sandal boots) worn by infants and children. Sandals whose uppers are made of other materials and which are manufactured by equivalent processes may be handled with reference to this standard.

3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions given in GB/T 2703 and the following apply to this document.

3.1 Primary site: in general, the outer side, the forepart, the counter and the toe puff areas of the upper.

3.2 Secondary site: in general, the inner side and the rear part of the upper.

4.1 Classification by intended wearer

According to the intended wearer, products are divided into the following two classes: a) men's leather sandals (sandal boots); b) women's leather sandals (sandal boots).

4.2 Classification by style

According to style, products are divided into the following six classes: a) strap-type leather sandals (sandal boots); b) full-upper leather sandals (sandal boots); c) middle-open leather sandals (sandal boots); d) open-toe leather sandals (sandal boots); e) open-back leather sandals (sandal boots); f) leather sandals (sandal boots) of other styles.

4.3 Classification by upper material

According to the material of the upper, products are divided into the following four classes: a) leather sandals (sandal boots) with uppers of natural leather (full-grain leather, split leather); b) leather sandals (sandal boots) with uppers of artificial leather or synthetic leather; c) leather sandals (sandal boots) with textile uppers; d) leather sandals (sandal boots) with uppers combining several materials.

4.4 Classification by manufacturing process

According to the manufacturing process, products are divided into the following seven classes: a) cemented leather sandals (sandal boots); b) stitched leather sandals (sandal boots); c) compression-moulded leather sandals (sandal boots); d) vulcanised leather sandals (sandal boots); e) injection-moulded leather sandals (sandal boots); f) poured leather sandals (sandal boots); g) leather sandals (sandal boots) made by other processes.

5.1 General requirements

5.1.1 The shoe size shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 3293.1.

5.1.2 The dimensions of the last shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 3293.

5.1.3 The product marking shall comply with the requirements of QB/T 2673.

5.1.4 The materials used in the shoe shall comply with the requirements of the corresponding product standards.

5.1.5 For the judgement of after-sales quality see Annex A.

5.1.6 No defect affecting wear shall be present.

5.2 Sensory quality

The requirements for sensory quality are given in Table 1. Items 1 to 5 of the table, together with the severe defects listed in Note 1 to the table, are primary items; items 6 to 10 are secondary items.

Table 1 sets out, for premium products and for qualified products, the requirements on: overall appearance (flat, close-fitting, stable, clean and symmetrical, special design styles excepted; the lasted ends of the straps flat and close-fitting; eyelets, plaited joints and similar structures not deformed; no nail points showing through the insole and no nail tails protruding; no obvious discolouration or colour loss of the shoe or its interior, rub-off leather and colour-change leather uppers excepted; the sock lining firm and flat; no obvious sensory defects); straps and uppers (colour, thickness, nap coarseness and grain pattern of corresponding parts of a pair to be basically consistent, special design styles excepted; no cracked finish or cracked grain, and no loose grain except on crackle leather and similar special upper materials; no exposed lasting margin and no bloom; no scars; textile straps free of obvious weaving faults; on premium goods no severe blemishes at primary sites, while qualified goods allow slight loose grain at secondary sites, two inconspicuous weaving faults at secondary sites, and one missing chisel cut, with smooth eyelet walls); counter and toe puff (upright, flat, symmetrical, correctly positioned and not shrunk or deformed, for sandals that have them); heel (firmly assembled, upright, symmetrical in size and height, uniform in lustre, free of cracks, with the heel cover flat and the heel seat firm); bonded bottom edge (neat and tight, no open bond, no missing adhesive and no adhesive overflow; basically so for qualified goods); stitching (neat rows and uniform stitch length, with the bottom thread evenly tensioned; premium goods allow no skipped stitches, no double stitching other than the back-tacking foreseen by the design, no broken threads, no twisted threads, no run-off threads and no stitching off track, while qualified goods allow none of these at primary sites and one skipped stitch or double stitch at secondary sites, with not more than two such places per shoe); outsole (lustre and pattern of corresponding parts of a pair basically consistent, special design styles excepted, with slight defects allowed on qualified goods); folded edges and topline (neat, even and smooth, with no cut edges exposed and no cracked mouth); accessories (firmly assembled on the sandal, basically symmetrical, uniform in colour, special design styles excepted, with no obvious sensory defects; metal parts smooth on the surface and free of sharp edges and sharp points; zips running smoothly and free of burrs at both ends).

Item 10 of Table 1 covers dimensions. Within a pair, the tolerance on the length of the front vamp (strap) is 1.5 mm for premium goods and 2.0 mm for qualified goods, and the tolerance on the back height (strap length) is 2.0 mm and 2.5 mm respectively. For boots, the tolerance on the back height is 2.0 mm (premium) and 3.0 mm (qualified) where the height is less than 250 mm, and 3.0 mm and 5.0 mm respectively where the height is 250 mm or more. Within a pair, the tolerance on outsole length is 1.5 mm (premium) and 2.5 mm (qualified) and the tolerance on outsole width is 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm respectively. The tolerance on heel height within a pair is 1.0 mm and the tolerance on toe spring is 2.0 mm for both grades. The skew of the back seam shall be not greater than 1.5 mm for premium goods and not greater than 2.0 mm for qualified goods. At the thinnest point, the ground-contact area of the forepart of the outsole shall be not less than 3.0 mm and that of the rear part not less than 5.0 mm; where an assembled heel is fitted with a heel cover, the thickness of the cover is counted in.

Note 1 to Table 1: any of the following constitutes a severe defect: a tolerance on outsole length within a pair exceeding 4.0 mm; a tolerance on outsole width within a pair exceeding 3.0 mm; a tolerance on the length of the front vamp (strap) within a pair exceeding 4.0 mm; a tolerance on the back height (strap length) within a pair exceeding 4.0 mm; a tolerance on the back height of boots less than 250 mm high exceeding 5.0 mm; a tolerance on the back height of boots 250 mm high or more exceeding 7.0 mm.

Note 2 to Table 1: sensory defects not listed in the table are handled as the similar items of Table 1.

5.3 Odour

The odour shall be judged in accordance with Table 12 in 6.2.6; the odour grade shall be not greater than grade 3.

5.4.1 Flexing resistance

5.4.1.1 The technical indices for flexing resistance are given in Table 2. For premium goods, after flexing the length of the crack at the cut shall be not greater than 10.0 mm (where no cut is made this item is not tested); after flexing there shall be no new cracks on the outsole, no breakage of the upper, no delamination of the upper or of the coating layer, no opening of the bond at the upper-to-sole junction, the foxing tape, the edge binding or the sole wall, no opening of the sole, and no shedding of the coating on the sole or the sole wall. For qualified goods, the length of the crack at the cut after flexing shall be not greater than 20.0 mm (where no cut is made this item is not tested); new cracks on the outsole are allowed provided the length of any single crack is not greater than 5.0 mm and there are not more than three such places; there shall be no breakage of the upper, no delamination of the upper or of the coating layer, no opening of the bond at the upper-to-sole junction, the foxing tape, the edge binding or the sole wall, no opening of the sole, and no shedding of the coating on the sole or the sole wall.

5.4.1.2 The flexing resistance is not tested where any of the following occurs: a) the shoe size is less than 230; b) the rigidity of the whole shoe, tested according to 8.4.1 of GB/T 20991-2007, gives a flexing angle of less than 45 degrees under a force of 30 N; c) the heel height is greater than 70 mm; d) the thickness of the flexing part of the sole is greater than 25 mm.

8 Inspection rules, marking, packaging, transport and storage

The inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage shall be carried out in accordance with QB/T 1187.
