Scope
GB/T 22371-2024 is the English-translated version of 传真机、多功能复合型传真机环境保护要求.
China's national environmental protection requirements for fax machines and multi-function machines with a fax function. It specifies the environmental requirements, the test methods and the assessment for these products, covering their design, materials, energy consumption, emissions, consumables and end-of-life treatment. Office imaging equipment is regulated on environmental grounds for reasons that go beyond electricity. The machine is a source of indoor air pollutants while it is running: the fuser drives volatile organic compounds and styrene off the toner and the paper, the corona and the fuser generate ozone, and the paper and the toner produce fine dust and particles, all of it in an occupied room with the machine often within a metre of someone's desk. It also carries the substances restricted in electronic equipment, it consumes a cartridge every few thousand pages, and it becomes waste containing both. So the requirements are grouped accordingly. Design and material requirements cover the restricted substances, the marking of plastics for recycling, the avoidance of glued or welded joints that prevent disassembly, and the availability of spare parts and consumables that make repair and refill possible. Emission requirements set the limits for volatile organic compounds, benzene, styrene, ozone and dust, measured in a chamber under defined printing conditions. Energy requirements cover the typical consumption and the sleep behaviour. Consumable requirements address the cartridge and its recovery, and the end-of-life requirements address disassembly and the information given to the recycler. Issued on 31 December 2024 and in force since 1 July 2025, it replaces GB/T 22371-2008.
