Scope
GB/T 21885-2008 is the English-translated version of 纺织印染助剂 消泡剂 消泡效果的测定.
GB/T 21885-2008 specifies methods for determining the defoaming efficiency of defoaming agents used as textile printing and dyeing auxiliaries, and applies to silicone, polyether (ester) and other water-based defoamers.
The principle is that air passed at a fixed flow rate through a test solution builds foam to an equilibrium height, which reflects both the defoaming and the foam-suppressing action of the agent.
The instrumental dynamic method uses a jacketed foam tester, a rotameter at about 0.1 m3/h and a foaming solution of 0.5 % sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and 0.5 % TX-10, recording foam height at 0, 2, 5, 10 and 15 min, with repeat results agreeing within 10 mm; the rapid shaking method adds 1 mL of a 5 g/100 mL defoamer solution to 50 mL of foaming solution, shakes 30 times and times the collapse of foam to below 5 mL, with repeats agreeing within 2 s.
It also sets out the contents of the test report, and normative Annex A gives the schematic diagram of the test apparatus; this is the first edition. Issued on 15 May 2008, in force since 1 November 2008.
