Scope
GB/T 20829-2021 is the English-translated version of 船舶固定式气溶胶灭火系统性能要求和试验方法.
GB/T 20829-2021 sets the performance requirements and the test methods of the fixed total flooding aerosol fire extinguishing systems installed in the category A machinery spaces of a ship.
It fixes what the system has to achieve and how each requirement is verified: the extinguishing performance in the protected space, the generators and their arrangement, the actuation and control, the safety of the crew and the behaviour of the system in the environment of a ship.
It applies to the design, layout and testing of these systems. Shipyards, system makers and classification surveyors use it. It replaces GB/T 20829-2007, was issued on 20 August 2021 and has applied since 1 March 2022.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 20829-2007 "Performance requirements and test methods for fixed aerosol fire extinguishing systems on ships", and Compared with GB/T 20829-2007, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes include.
a) Modified normative references (see Chapter 2, Chapter 2 of the 2007 edition);
b) The definitions of pyrotechnic aerosol and design density have been changed, and the definitions of aerosol extinguishing agent generators and efficiency coefficients have been added (see section 3. Chapter, Chapter 3 of the 2007 edition);
c) Deleted the definition of "full submerged fire extinguishing system" (3.8 in 2007 edition);
d) The formula for calculating the quality of the fire extinguishing agent has been changed (see 4.3.3, 4.3.3 of the 2007 edition);
e) The test requirements for polymer plates have been added (see 4.4.9);
f) The requirements of the user manual are changed, and the title of 4.5 is revised to "Precautions for Use" (see 4.5, 4.5 in the 2007 edition);
g) Added spray test requirements (see 5.7);
h) The installation height and quality requirements of the test medium are changed (see 5.8.3, 5.8.3 of the 2007 edition);
i) The test fire combination requirements are changed (see Table 4, Table 4 of the 2007 edition).
1 Scope
This document specifies the performance requirements of the fixed fully submerged aerosol fire extinguishing system (hereinafter referred to as the fire extinguishing system) of the ship's Class A machinery space Summation test method.
This document applies to the design, layout and testing of fire extinguishing systems.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions defined in GB/T 4968-2008 apply to this document.
3.1 Aerosol
A stable or quasi-stable substance system in which liquid (droplets) or solid particles are suspended in a gas medium.
3.2 Pyrotechnicalygeneratedaerosols
A concentrated aerosol is formed in the pyrotechnic generator through medium filling and burning.
Note: Smoke aerosol is also called hot aerosol.
3.3 Dispersed aerosols
It is not produced by pyrotechnics, and is stored in a container with the help of carrier preparations (such as inert gases, halogenated hydrocarbons, etc.), through valves, ducts and nozzles Aerosols that are released into protected premises.
