Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part

1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document supersedes GB 18242-2008 "Elastomer-Modified Bituminous Waterproofing Membranes" and GB 18243-2008 "Plastic-Modified Bituminous Waterproofing Membranes". Compared with GB 18242-2008 and GB 18243-2008, the main technical changes in "Roll Materials" are as follows, apart from structural adjustments and editorial modifications.

a) The classification of glass fiber reinforced polyester (PYG) tires has been deleted (see section

3.1 of GB 18242-2008 and section

3.1 of GB 18243-2008);

b) The raw material requirements have been changed (see Chapter 5, Chapter 4 of GB 18242-2008 and Chapter 4 of GB 18243-2008);

c) The mass per unit area has been removed (see section

5.1 of GB 18242-2008 and section

5.1 of GB 18243-2008);

d) The soluble matter content (5mm) indicator has been deleted (see section

5.3 of GB 18242-2008 and section

5.3 of GB 18243-2008);

e) The indicators for impermeability, hot air aging, and accelerated aging due to artificial climate have been modified (see 6.3.1,

5.3 of GB 18242-2008, and...). GB 18243-2008, section 5.3);

1 Scope

GB/T 18242-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the torch-applied modified bitumen membrane - the SBS elastomeric and APP plastomeric types, the reinforcement carrier, the low temperature flexibility and the heat resistance that bracket where each may be used, the tensile strength and the watertightness. It replaces GB 18242-2008 and moves the document from mandatory to recommended status. In force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 31 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026, replacing GB 18242-2008.

This document specifies the types of waterproof membranes. elastomeric modified bitumen waterproof membrane (hereinafter referred to as "SBS waterproof membrane") and plastomeric modified bitumen waterproof membrane (hereinafter referred to as...). The classification, specifications and markings, raw materials, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, as well as marking, packaging, storage and transportation of "APP waterproof membrane". This document applies to materials made primarily from petroleum asphalt, modified with styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) thermoplastic elastomer. SBS waterproof membrane is made with polyester felt or fiberglass felt as the base material and covered with a release material on both sides; it uses petroleum asphalt as the main raw material and random polymer... Propylene (APP) or polyolefin polymers (APAO, APO) are used as modifiers, with polyester felt or fiberglass felt as the base material, and both sides are covered with a release material. The resulting APP waterproof membrane.
