Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB/T 16957-1997, Mechanical tests on welded joints of clad steel plates.

In this revision, the following main contents of GB/T 16957-1997 have been modified:

- in the normative references, seven standards including JJG 139 have been deleted and nine standards including GB/T 8165 have been added;

- the terms already defined in GB/T 6396, GB/T 10623, GB/T 2650, GB/T 2651, GB/T 2652, GB/T 2653 and GB/T 2654 have been deleted;

- the term "face bend" has been renamed "positive bend";

- the following has been added: "The test plate dimensions, test items and specimen cutting locations shall comply with the requirements of the relevant standards; where the relevant standards do not specify them, this standard shall apply";

- the provision that, for test plates with run-on and run-off tabs, less or none of the two ends need be discarded has been deleted;

- the following note has been added: "Note: The type of specimen shall be selected according to the requirements of the relevant product; generally the choice depends on whether the cladding is included in the design strength";

- the specimen width "b >= 25 mm" has been changed to "specimen width b of 25 mm";

- all references to "insufficient capacity of the testing machine" have been deleted;

- for base-metal-only tensile specimens, the text has been changed to: "generally a specimen of the full base-metal thickness is used; where the base metal thickness of the clad steel plate Tb >= 30 mm, specimens may be taken in evenly divided layers through the thickness in accordance with GB/T 2651, and the combined result of these multiple specimens then replaces one full-thickness test result";

- the following has been added: "Unless otherwise specified, the test shall be carried out at an ambient temperature of (23 ± 5) °C";

- the evaluation of bend test results has been changed to: "After bending, both the outer surface and the sides of the specimen shall be examined; where necessary, the extent of cracking at the bond interface may also be examined".

This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Welding of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 55).
