1 Scope

GB/T 16739.2-2023 is the part of the GB/T 16739 series that sets the conditions a business has to meet to operate as a comprehensive minor repair shop or a special-item repair shop — the workshops that diagnose a fault arising in service or found during maintenance and put it right by repairing or replacing individual parts, rather than overhauling a vehicle. Clause 4 gives the general rules, carrying across the organisational and management requirements of Part 1: the documentation the business must hold, how the operation is run and managed, and maintenance files kept in electronic form so a vehicle's repair history survives beyond the shop that did the work. Clause 5 then gives the operating conditions particular to each kind of business, where premises, equipment and technical personnel are matched to the work actually undertaken. The road transport regulations already require an operator to have sites, equipment, staff, a maintenance management system and environmental measures, but a regulation of that kind cannot be inspected against; this part turns it into something a registration officer can check line by line. Written for repair businesses applying for or renewing registration, for the transport authorities that assess them, and for fleet buyers choosing a workshop.

3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 5624 and the following apply to this document.
