Scope

GB/T 16566-2018 is the English-translated version of 铁路隧道词汇.

China's national vocabulary for railway tunnels - the terms in which a tunnel is surveyed, designed, driven, lined, equipped, accepted and maintained. It establishes the terms and definitions used in railway tunnel engineering. China has built more railway tunnel than the rest of the world combined, much of it for high-speed lines through mountainous country, and the vocabulary has to serve a whole industry: the geological investigation, the design, the excavation, the support and lining, the waterproofing and drainage, the ventilation and the operational equipment, and the inspection and repair of tunnels already in service. The terms cover the classification of tunnels and their structural parts - the portal, the lining, the invert, the crown, the side wall, the cross passage, the shaft and the adit - and the geological and ground condition terms on which everything else depends, since the ground class assigned during investigation determines the excavation method, the support and the price. They cover the construction methods themselves: drill and blast with its round, its charge and its advance, the bench and full-face variants, the mined sequences of the New Austrian method, shield and tunnel boring machine driving, and the cut-and-cover work at the portals. They cover the support elements - shotcrete, rock bolts, lattice girders, steel arches, forepoling - and the water control that decides whether a lined tunnel is durable. And they cover the operational side that a railway tunnel needs and a highway tunnel does not: the aerodynamic effects of a high-speed train entering a tunnel, the pressure wave and the micro-pressure wave at the far portal, and the clearances and equipment that follow from them. Issued on 13 July 2018 and in force since 1 February 2019, it replaces GB/T 16566-1996.

Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB/T 16566-1996 "railway tunnel terminology", compared with GB/T 16566-1996, except editorial modification

The technical changes are as follows.

--- Added the term "surrounding rock" (see Chapter 3);

--- Combine the original Chapter 3 "Tunnel Survey" and the original Chapter 4 "Tunnel Design" into Chapter 4 "Reconnaissance and Design" (see Chapter 4,.1996)

Chapters 3 and 4 of the annual edition);

--- Added the term "railway construction machinery" (see Chapter 6);

--- Added the vocabulary related to Chapter 7 "Tunnel Support and Lining" and the vocabulary related to tunnel lining from the original Chapter 4 "Tunnel Design"

Merged into Chapter 7 (see Chapter 7, Chapter 4 of the.1996 edition);

--- Added "test and monitoring" related vocabulary (see Chapter 8);

--- Added words related to "ventilation, lighting, drainage" (see Chapter 9).

This standard is proposed and managed by the National Railway Administration.

This standard was drafted by the Railway Construction Research Institute of China Railway Science Research Institute and the Institute of Standard Metrology of China Railway Science Research Institute.
