1 Scope
GB/T 15366-2025 is the Chinese national standard on types, positions and general requirements for controls of motorcycles and mopeds, in the field of road vehicles engineering. This document specifies the types, positions and general requirements for the controls of motorcycles and mopeds. This document is applicable to the controls of motorcycles and mopeds (hereinafter referred to as the "motorcycles").
2 Normative References
The contents of the following documents constitute indispensable clauses of this document through the normative references in the text. In terms of references with a specified date, only versions with a specified date are applicable to this document. In terms of references without a specified date, the latest version (including all the modifications) is applicable to this document.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 5359.1 and the following are applicable to this document.
3.1 device An element or combination of elements that is used to perform one or multiple functions.
3.2 control A device operated by the rider using hands or feet to obtain various functions of different mechanisms of the motorcycle.
3.3 handlebar A handle component located at the top of the front fork/steering column and used to control the driving direction of the motorcycle.
3.15 clockwise/counter-clockwise When looking directly at the object from above or outside, the direction/opposite direction of the clock hand's rotation around its axis is clockwise/counter-clockwise.
3.16 center of steering wheel The center point of the upper plane of the steering wheel rim.
3.17 longitudinal plane A plane parallel to the longitudinal center plane of the motorcycle.
4 Types and Positions of Controls
4.1 Main Switch/Ignition Switch The main switch/ignition switch enables the motorcycle's electrical system and also starts the engine. If it is a rotary switch, then, the rotation direction from the "OFF" position to the "ON" position of the ignition switch shall be clockwise.
4.2.1 Starting
4.2.1.1 Starting switch/electric starting switch The operating mode of the starting switch/electric starting switch is as follows:
a) Position of the control. on the handlebar, the right side;
b) Type of the control. push-button or touch-tone type.
4.2.1.2 Ignition/starting combination switch When the switch is rotated clockwise, it shall first disconnect the ignition switch, then, connect it, and finally, start the engine.
4.2.2 Engine speed The engine speed is adjusted by the accelerator pedal or throttle controller. The operation is as follows:
a) Position of the control. on the handlebar, the right side, or in the right foot control position;
b) Type of the control. rotating handgrip or pedal type;
c) Acceleration adjustment. when the rotating handgrip is rotated counterclockwise or the accelerator pedal is stepped on, the engine speed increases. Except when the vehicle speed control device is activated, after releasing the hand (foot), the control shall automatically return to engine idle speed.
4.2.3 Engine shutdown The engine can be shut down by switching the ignition switch, or by equipping the engine with a power cut-off device. The operation is as follows:
a) Position of the control. on the handlebar, the right side;
b) Type of the control. no special requirements.
4.3 Braking
4.3.1 Front wheel brake The operation of the front wheel brake control is as follows:
a) Position of the control. on the handlebar, the right side, frontend;
b) Type of the control. hand lever type.
4.3.2 Rear wheel brake
4.3.2.1 Motorcycles with hand-operated clutch For motorcycles with hand-operated clutch, the operation of the rear wheel brake control is as follows:
a) Position of the control. in the right foot control position;
b) Type of control device. pedal type.
4.3.2.2 Motorcycles without hand-operated clutch For motorcycles without hand-operated clutch, the operation of the rear wheel brake control can be one of the following modes.
a) Position of the control. on the handlebar, the left side, frontend; Type of the control. hand lever type.
b) Position of the control. in the right foot control position; Type of the control. pedal type.
4.3.3 Combined service brake Motorcycles already equipped with front and rear wheel brake controls may be equipped with combined brake controls that meet the requirements of
4.3.1 and 4.3.2.
4.3.4 Parking brake device The operation of the parking brake device is as follows:
a) Position of the control. the rider shall be able to achieve the brake from the seat;
b) Type of the control. hand lever or pedal type.
4.4.1 Clutch
4.4.1.1 Hand-operated clutch The operation of the hand-operated clutch is as follows:
a) Position of the control. on the steering wheel, the left side, or front end;
b) Type of the control. hand lever type.
4.4.1.2 Foot-operated clutch The operation of the foot-operated clutch is as follows:
a) Position of the control. left foot-operated position;
b) Type of the control. pedal type. A combined pedal control that simultaneously operates the clutch and gear shifter can be installed on the clutch operating mechanism.
4.4.2 Gear shifter
4.4.2.1 Mechanical gear shifting 4.4.2.1.1 Regardless of whether the controls of gear shifter and clutch are separate or linked, they shall meet the following requirements.
a) Position of the control. left foot-operated position;
b) Type of the control. foot lever or rocker arm type;
