Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part

1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document replaces GB/T 14578-2003 "Thuja silkworm water reeling". Compared with GB/T 14578-2003, the main differences are structural adjustments and editorial changes. Aside from the modifications, the main technical changes are as follows:

1 Scope

GB/T 14578-2025 is the Chinese national standard on water-reeled tussah silk, in the field of textile and leather technology. The /T suffix marks it as a recommended standard: it is not compulsory by itself, but it becomes binding as soon as a contract, a tender or a customer specification calls it up - which in practice is how most foreign buyers meet it. It was issued on 31 October 2025 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of China, and takes effect on 1 November 2027. 3 Terms and Definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 26380-2022 and GB/T 32014-2015, as well as the following terms and definitions, apply to this document.

3.1 The filaments are made from high-quality tussah silkworm cocoons, which are treated with oxides and then reeled without dehydration using a water-reeling process. [Source: GB/T 26380-2022, 3.2.17]

3.2 hollow cocoon The tussah silkworm (pupa) cocoon is dry and broken, the cocoon layer is contaminated, the cocoon is light, and there is no rolling sound when the silkworm (pupa) is shaken.

4.Specifications The center value of the fineness of water-reeled tussah silk is the nominal fineness. The specification is indicated by two fineness values, one above and one below the center value, which are equal in degree to the center value.

Note. The upper and lower fineness values do not represent the upper and lower limits of fineness. Example 1.33/37den (36.7/41.1dtex) indicates tussah silk reeled with a nominal fineness of 35den (38.9dtex). Example 2.66/74den (73.3/82.2dtex) means tussah silk reeled with water and a nominal fineness of 70den (77.8dtex).
