Scope
GB/T 14506.8-2010 is the English-translated version of 硅酸盐岩石化学分析方法 第8部分:二氧化钛量测定.
GB/T 14506.8-2010 is Part 8 of the Chinese method series for the chemical analysis of silicate rocks and covers the determination of their titanium dioxide content.
It gives two spectrophotometric methods: the hydrogen peroxide method, for titanium dioxide from 0.2 % to 10 %, and the diantipyrylmethane method, from 0.05 % to 5 %.
For each it fixes the principle, the reagents and their preparation and the procedure: in the hydrogen peroxide method the filtrate left after the silica has been separated is treated with phosphoric acid to mask iron, and the yellow complex formed with hydrogen peroxide is read at 400 nm.
Besides rocks it applies to soils and stream sediments, and it is meant for experienced laboratory staff. It replaces GB/T 14506.8-1993, was issued on 10 November 2010 and has applied since 1 February 2011.

GB/T 14506.1 Silicate rocks - Part 1: Determination of water adsorption
3 Hydrogen peroxide spectrophotometry
3.1 Principle
The filtrate was isolated after silica in a 5% sulfuric acid medium with phosphoric acid masking iron, titanium and hydrogen peroxide produces too complex titanate yellow Was, on a spectrophotometer, a wavelength of 400nm measured absorbance. Calculate the amount of titanium dioxide.
Their reaction was. Ti (SO4) 2 H2O -> 2 H2 [TiO2 (SO4) 2]
3.2 Reagents
Unless otherwise stated in this section are consistent with the use of analytical reagent and GB/T 6682 analytical laboratory use in the analysis.
3.2.1 Coke potassium sulfate.
3.2.2 Sulfuric acid (11). Warning --- improper dilution risk prone.
3.2.3 Sulfuric acid (595).
3.2.4 Phosphoric acid (11).
3.2.5 Hydrogen peroxide solution (30g/L). 10mL of hydrogen peroxide (30%) with water to 100mL.
3.2.6 Titania standard solution preparation.
a) titanium dioxide standard solution (0.5000mg/mL).
Weigh 0.5000g pre-1000 °C for 1h burning spectroscopically pure titanium dioxide (TiO2), placed in a platinum crucible, add 10g Coke Potassium (3.2.1) at 650 °C high temperature furnace melting 10min ~ 15min, then cool, add 400mL beaker, sulfur Acid (3.2.3) heated leaching, after shedding frit, washed out of the crucible and heated to translucent solution was cooled and transferred to 1000mL volumetric flask, Dilute to the mark with sulfuric acid (3.2.3);
b) Titanium dioxide standard solution (100.0µg/mL).
Titania dispensing 20.0mL standard solution [3.2.6a)], placed in 100mL volumetric flask, dilute sulfuric acid (3.2.3) to the mark Degree, shake.
