Scope

GB/T 14506.23-2010 is the English-translated version of 硅酸盐岩石化学分析方法第23部分：铬量测定.

GB/T 14506.23-2010 specifies methods for determining the chromium content of silicate rocks, and applies equally to soils and stream sediments: a diphenylcarbazide photometric method for 10 µg/g to 2000 µg/g and an ammonia-ammonium chloride-alpha,alpha'-bipyridyl-sodium nitrite-sodium sulfite supporting electrolyte polarographic method for 10 µg/g to 150 µg/g.

In the photometric method the test portion is fused with sodium peroxide and sodium hydroxide at 700 °C, leached and dry-filtered, and hexavalent chromium is reacted with diphenylcarbazide in 0.1 mol/L sulfuric acid and measured at 540 nm, with a table of test portion masses and aliquots by content range, separate calibration series for low and high chromium, and a precipitation step when vanadium exceeds 150 µg.

The polarographic method measures the adsorptive catalytic current of chromium at pH 9 to 10 on an oscillopolarograph; both methods set out reagents, standard solutions, apparatus, sample preparation and quality control, and the photometric method gives the calculation formula and precision data from seven laboratories (r = 0.466m^0.67, R = 4.482 + 0.165m).

It replaces GB/T 14506.23-1993, adding normative references and safety warnings and presenting test portion masses and solution aliquots in tables. Issued on 10 November 2010, in force since 1 February 2011.

- the mass of test portion to be weighed and the aliquots of solution to be taken are now presented in tabular form.
