Scope

GB/T 13501-2026 is the English-translated version of 封闭式制冷压缩机用电动机绝缘相容性试验方法.

GB/T 13501-2026 gives the test method for checking that the electrical insulation system of a motor built into a hermetic refrigeration compressor stays compatible with the refrigerant and refrigeration oil it works in.

It covers the test equipment and instruments, including the autoclave, the gas leak detector and the electrical contact pressure gauge, the preparation of samples, the test parameters and procedures, and the electrical checks after the test, with a normative annex for testing individual insulating materials.

It applies to motors working with refrigerants such as R22, R134a, R404A, R410A, R407C, R600a, R1234yf, R1234ze, R290, R32, R502, R507A and R744. Issued on 2 July 2026 and applicable from 1 February 2027, it replaces GB/T 13501-2008.

Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".

This document supersedes GB/T 13501-2008 "Test Method for Insulation Compatibility of Electric Motors for Hermetic Refrigeration Compressors". Compared with GB/T 13501-2008, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

---The requirements for autoclaves have been changed (see 4.1, 2008 version 4.1);

---The notation for the motor power range has been changed (see 4.2, 2008 edition 4.2);

---The specifications for gas leak detectors have been changed (see 4.3, 2008 edition of 4.3);

---The specifications for electrical contact pressure gauges have been changed (see 4.4, 2008 edition of 4.4);

---The insulation material category "Winding bobbin, insulating bushing" has been revised and added (see Chapter 5, Chapter 5 of the 2008 edition);

---Added refrigerant categories such as R1234yf, R1234ze, R290, R32, R502, R507A, and R744 (see Chapter 1, 6.1, and Table 2);

---The heat resistance rating and the internal test temperature have been increased (see Table 2 and Table A.1);

---The test cycle for DC motors has been increased (see Table 2);

---The limits for water content in refrigeration oil have been changed (see Table 2, Note 3 of Table 2 in the 2008 edition);

---Leak detection requirements have been changed (see 6.2.5, 2008 version of 6.2.5);

---The standards for the number of test cycles and test time have been added (see 6.2.7, Table A.1);

---The requirements for checking the test voltage before testing have been changed (see 7.1, 7.1 in the 2008 edition);

---The test requirements and content for "Electrical Strength Test" have been added (see A.3.1).

1 Scope

This document describes the test method for electrical insulation compatibility of electric motors (hereinafter referred to as "electric motors") used in hermetic refrigeration compressors.

This document applies to electric motors for hermetic refrigeration compressors operating with refrigerants such as R22, R134a, R404A, R410A, R407C, R600a, R1234yf, R1234ze, R290, R32, R502, R507A and R744.

Motors for compressors using other refrigerants may refer to it.

2 Normative references

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Hermetic refrigeration compressor

A refrigeration compressor in which the compressor and motor are housed in a single enclosure.

Note: This type of compressor does not have an external extension or shaft seal. [Source: GB/T 2900.29-2008, 6.2.1.40, with modifications]

3.2 Refrigerant

In a refrigeration system, a fluid that transfers heat through a change of phase, absorbing heat at low temperature and low pressure and releasing it at high temperature and high pressure. [Source: GB/T 2900.29-2008, 6.2.1.10]

3.3 Insulating material

A material of low electrical conductivity used to isolate conductive parts at different potentials from each other or from their surroundings.

Note: Insulating materials are solids, liquids, or gases, or combinations thereof. [Source: GB/T 2900.5-2013, 212-11-01, with modifications]
