Scope

GB/T 38877-2020 is the English-translated version of 电工钢带(片)绝缘涂层.

GB/T 38877-2020 covers the insulating coatings applied to electrical steel strip and sheet.

Clause 1 states that the standard specifies the terms and definitions, the classification and code, and the testing items and test methods for these coatings, and that it applies to the insulating coating formed by coating and surface oxidation on cold-rolled electrical steel strip (sheet) from inorganic components, organic components and compound preparations of the two.

Its table of contents names clause 4 Classification and code and clause 5 Testing items and test methods, followed by Annex A (informative), which compares domestic and foreign coating classifications and codes, and a bibliography.

Clause 3 defines the coating as a layer of insulating material applied to the surface of the cold-rolled strip (sheet) to prevent or reduce short circuits between core laminations, and defines coated insulation resistance as the resistance corresponding to the current that flows through the coating when a given DC voltage is applied to its surface, noting that it is divided into surface insulation resistance, expressed per face, and interlayer resistance, expressed per sheet.

Clause 4 builds the code in a fixed order from the Chinese Pinyin initials of Dian (electricity) and Jue (insulating), a numeric code for the coating type and, where one exists, a characteristic code in English letters, with the full classification given in Table 1; the standard's own example, DJ-3-Z, denotes a type 3 coating with high surface insulation resistance that greatly improves the punching performance of the strip.

The documents cited show which properties are tested and how, among them GB/T 2522 for interlamination resistance, lamination factor and coating adhesion, GB/T 20831 for assessing the temperature capability of interlaminar insulation coatings, GB/T 1733 for resistance to water, GB/T 6739 for pencil hardness, GB/T 9274 for resistance to liquids, GB/T 9286 for the cross cut test, GB/T 10125 for salt spray testing and GB/T 13501 for insulation compatibility with hermetic refrigeration compressor motors. It was issued on 2 June 2020 and has applied since 1 December 2020.

1 Scope

This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and code, testing items and test methods of insulating coatings for the electrical steel strip (sheet).

This Standard is applicable to the insulating coating that is formed by coating on the surface of cold-rolled electrical steel strip (sheet) and surface oxidation through inorganic components, organic components and their compound preparation.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1 Insulating coatings for the electrical steel strip (sheet)

a coating that in order to prevent or reduce the short circuit between the core laminations and increase the eddy current loss, a layer of insulating properties is coated on the surface of the cold-rolled electrical steel strip (sheet)

3.2 Coated insulation resistance

when applying a certain DC voltage to the surface of the cold-rolled electrical steel strip (sheet) coating, the resistance corresponding to the current flowing through the coating

NOTE: Coated insulation resistance is divided into surface insulation resistance (ohm.mm2/face) and interlayer resistance (ohm.mm2/sheet).

4 Classification and code

The code of insulating coatings for the electrical steel strip (sheet) is composed in the order given below. The classification and code of the insulating coating are shown in Table 1. Refer to Annex A for domestic and foreign coating classification and code comparison.

Example:

DJ-3-Z indicates that the type of insulating coating for the electrical steel strip (sheet) is 3, with high surface insulation resistance, which can greatly improve the punching performance of the steel strip. […]
