Scope

GB/T 12604.8-2014 is the English-translated version of 无损检测术语中子检测.

GB/T 12604.8-2014 is the part of the Chinese non-destructive testing terminology series that defines the technical terms used in neutron testing.

Its single terms clause gives 47 definitions covering the physics of neutrons and their interaction with matter (activation, cross sections, the barn, attenuation coefficients, half-value layer, pair production, thermal, fast and cold neutrons), neutron sources (isotope, accelerator and reactor sources, neutron generators), and the practice of neutron radiography (conversion screens, cassettes and vacuum cassettes, direct and indirect exposure, L/D ratio, image quality indicators, sensitivity value, effective gamma, scattered neutron and pair production content).

It replaces GB/T 12604.8-1995, whose terms were spread over three clauses; the new edition gathers them in one clause and modifies part of the terms and definitions.

Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB/T 12604.8-1995, Terminology for non-destructive testing - Neutron testing.

Compared with GB/T 12604.8-1995, the main changes in this standard are as follows:

- some terms and definitions have been modified (see Clause 2; Clauses 2 to 4 of the 1995 edition).

This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Non-destructive Testing of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 56).
