3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 book

A non-continuous publication of considerable length that uses words, pictures, and symbols to record knowledge on a certain form of carrier.

Note. Including textual materials, graphic materials bound into volumes (including maps), musical scores or other content carrier forms, etc.

The work of compiling catalog data in the book publishing process.

3.3 Book cataloging in publication data CIP data

Catalog data compiled during the book publishing process.

3.4 book titletitle

A word/character or group of words/characters that expresses and individuates the content and characteristics of a book.

3.5 proper titleproper title

The book's primary title, that is, the form of the book's title that appears in both the title and the statement of responsibility.
