Scope

GB/T 12008.1-2026 is the English-translated version of 塑料 聚氨酯生产用聚醚多元醇 第1部分:命名系统.

GB/T 12008.1-2026 is the first part of a series on polyether polyols used to make polyurethane, and it sets up a naming system for these products. It provides a standard naming model, a name code table and identifiers, a character code table, descriptions of each character group in the feature item group, and worked naming examples.

The naming system can also serve as a basis for classifying the product. The terms clause covers polyether polyol, bio-based polyether polyol and a polyol made from carbon dioxide, and notes that products with more than 25% carbon dioxide by mass are classed as polycarbonate polyols.

Issued on 2 July 2026 and applicable from 1 February 2027, it replaces GB/T 12008.1-2009.

Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".

This document is Part 1 of GB/T 12008 "Polyether Polyols for the Production of Polyurethane in Plastics". GB/T 12008 has been published. The following section.

---Part 1: Naming System;

---Part 2: Specifications;

---Part 3: Determination of hydroxyl value;

---Part 4: Determination of Sodium and Potassium Content;

---Part 6: Determination of Unsaturation;

---Part 7: Determination of alkaline substance content.

This document supersedes GB/T 12008.1-2009 "Plastics - Polyether Polyols - Part 1: Nomenclature System" and is consistent with GB/T 12008.1- Compared to 2009, aside from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

a) Added terms and definitions for polyether polyols, bio-based polyether polyols, and polyether carbonate polyols (see Chapter 3);

b) The standard naming system pattern has been changed (see 4.2, 2009 version 2.1.2);

c) Added identifier characters to the standard naming system pattern (see 4.3.2);

d) The number of digits in character group 1 and the types of commonly used starting agents have been changed (see Table 4, Table 1 in the 2009 edition);

e) The meaning of character group 2 has been changed, and a numerical code has been added indicating the bio-based content in polyether polyols or the CO2 mass content in polyether products. Code (see 4.3.3.3, 2.2 of the 2009 edition);

f) The meaning of character group 3 and the number of digits used to represent the nominal molecular weight have been changed (see 4.3.3.4, 2.3 in the 2009 edition);

g) The meaning of character group 4 and the special character codes have been changed (see 4.3.3.5, 2.4 and 2.5 of the 2009 version).

Introduction

GB/T 12008 "Polyether Polyols for Polyurethane Production in Plastics" is a standard concerning the naming system and product technology of polyether polyols for polyurethane production.

The series of standards, which include technical requirements and testing methods, will consist of eight parts.

---Part 1: Nomenclature System. The aim is to establish a nomenclature system for polyether polyols used in polyurethane production.

---Part 2: Product Specifications. The purpose is to specify the testing items, test methods, inspection rules, and markings for commonly used polyether polyols. This includes signing, packaging, transportation, and storage.

---Part 3: Determination of hydroxyl value. The purpose is to describe a method for determining the hydroxyl value of polyether polyols.

---Part 4: Determination of Sodium and Potassium Content. The purpose is to describe a method for determining the sodium and potassium content in polyether polyols.

---Part 5: Determination of Acid Value. The purpose is to describe a method for determining the acid value of polyether polyols.

---Part 6: Determination of Unsaturation. The purpose is to describe a method for determining the degree of unsaturation of polyether polyols.

---Part 7: Determination of alkaline content. The purpose is to describe a method for determining the alkaline content in polyether polyols.

---Part 8: Determination of Aldehyde and Ketone Content. The purpose is to describe a method for determining the aldehyde and ketone content in polyether polyols.

1 Scope

This document establishes a naming system for polyether polyols used in polyurethane production, and provides a standard naming system model, name code table, and identifier.

Character code table, descriptions of each character group in the feature item group, and naming examples.

This information can also serve as the basis for classifying the product.

2 Normative references

This document has no normative references.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Polyether polyol

Organic polymers whose main molecular chain contains repeating ether bonds (-ROR-) and whose end groups or side groups contain hydroxyl groups (-OH).

3.2 Bio-based polyether polyol

Polyether polyols are synthesized from biomass resources in whole or in part, and the final product contains no less than 25% bio-based content.

Note 1. Bio-based content refers to the mass ratio of biomass carbon content to total organic carbon content in polyether polyol products.

Note 2. Bio-based raw materials are used as initiators or epoxides in synthetic raw materials.

3.3 Carbon dioxide-based polyether polyol

Using carbon dioxide (CO2) as a raw material, and reacting with epoxides (such as propylene oxide (PO), ethylene oxide (EO), etc.) under the action of a specific catalyst.

A copolymerization reaction is carried out to generate a main chain containing both ether bonds (-COC-) and carbonate bonds (-OC(=O)-O-), and the product contains... Polyols with a CO2 content of no more than 25% by mass.

Note: When the CO2 content in a polyether product is greater than 25%, it is classified as a polycarbonate polyol in the classification of polyols, and its naming follows the guidelines for polycarbonate. Naming rules for polyols.

4.1 General Provisions

4.1.1 This naming system uses the product's initiator functionality, bio-based content, or CO2 mass content, nominal molecular weight, and nominal hydroxyl content in polyether products as the naming criteria. Based on information such as values and modification status.

4.1.2 This naming system does not imply that polyether polyols with the same name necessarily have the same properties. This document does not provide information for describing polyether polyols.

Engineering data, performance data, or processing condition data required for the special uses and/or processing methods of ether polyols.
