Scope
GB 20098-2025 is the English-translated version of 足部防护 通用技术规范.
GB 20098-2025 is the Chinese general standard for foot protection, and like its companion on protective clothing it has moved from GB/T to GB: from recommended to mandatory. It covers the classification and the styles of foot protection equipment, the harmlessness requirements for the materials that touch the wearer, the ergonomic requirements, and then the requirements for foot protective footwear itself, together with the marking and the information supplied with the product. Safety footwear is the single largest PPE category by volume, and China is both the largest producer and a large market; a mandatory general standard means that a boot sold there has to meet these requirements whatever the specific hazard standard it also claims. Effective 1 September 2026. For a footwear manufacturer, an importer or a company buying PPE for a Chinese site, this is the base text.
