1 Scope

China's mandatory general safety technical requirements for gas burning appliances. It is the umbrella standard beneath which the individual appliance standards for cookers, water heaters, boilers and heaters sit, and it states what every gas appliance must satisfy whatever it is for. The requirements follow the ways gas appliances kill. Carbon monoxide from incomplete combustion is the first, which sets the limits on the combustion products under normal and vitiated conditions and the requirement for an atmosphere-sensing shutoff on flueless appliances. Raw gas escaping from an unlit or extinguished burner is the second, which is why flame supervision is required. Then the flue and its discharge, the soundness of the gas circuit, the surface temperatures, the stability of the flame across the gas families and supply pressures found in China, and the instructions and marking the installer and the user depend on.

This document stipulates the basic safety technical content such as the requirements for gas burning appliances (hereinafter referred to as "burning appliances") and their accessories when they are put on the market and freely circulated. This document applies to household and commercial burning appliances and accessories that use town gas as fuel. This document does not apply to burning appliances used on vehicles, ships and other means of transportation, as well as burning appliances designed for specific uses or purposes such as industrial production processes or laboratory research.

3 Terms and definitions

There are no terms and definitions that need to be defined in this document.

4 Putting on the market and free circulation

4.1 Before burning appliances and accessories are put on the market and put into use, necessary measures shall be taken to ensure that they will not endanger personal health and property safety during normal use. NOTE: The "normal use" of the burning appliance in this document means that the burning appliance is under the following conditions of use:

a) It is installed correctly according to the installation instructions and maintained regularly and correctly;

b) It is used within the range of gas quality changes and gas supply pressure fluctuations that meet standard requirements;

c) Within the service life of the burning appliance, the burning appliance is used correctly according to its intended purpose or can reasonably be used correctly in the expected manner.

4.2 The special standards for burning appliances and accessories shall include the requirements specified in Chapter 5, and a corresponding table of clauses that comply with the requirements of Chapter 5 shall be listed.

4.3 Burning appliances and accessories put on the market and freely circulated shall comply with the requirements of Chapter 5.

4.4 Burning appliances and accessories can only be put on the market and freely circulated after being inspected and proven to comply with the declared product standards.

4.5 When a burning appliance is in normal use and is proven to have a defect that endangers personal health or property safety, products with similar defects shall be restricted or prohibited from continuing to be put on the market and circulated.
