Scope

GB 16669-2010 is the English-translated version of 二氧化碳灭火系统及部件通用技术条件.

GB 16669-2010 specifies the terms and definitions, basic parameters and model designation, requirements, test methods, inspection rules and requirements for instructions for use of high-pressure carbon dioxide fire extinguishing systems and their components, and applies to those systems and components.

It fixes the basic system parameters: working temperature range 0 °C to +50 °C, storage pressure 5.7 MPa, maximum filling density 600 kg/m3, maximum and minimum working pressures of 12.4 MPa and 3.4 MPa, and a maximum discharge time of 60 s, with models designated QME plus the cylinder volume.

The requirements cover the system as a whole (composition, marking, automatic, manual and mechanical emergency actuation, a 0 s to 30 s actuation delay) and each component in turn: agent and actuating gas cylinder assemblies, containers, container valves, nozzles, selector and check valves, manifolds, connecting hoses, safety relief devices, actuating devices, control panels, leak detection and signal feedback devices, low venting high close valves, pipework and supports.

The test methods follow, from hydraulic strength, air tightness, vibration, corrosion and temperature cycling to nozzle discharge characteristics and electrical tests, with inspection rules and normative Annexes A to U giving the test sequence and number of samples for each component.

It replaces GB 16669-1996, adding the model designation, the requirements for instructions for use and the annexes. Issued on 26 September 2010 and in force since 1 March 2011.

Classification: ICS 13.220.10, CCS C84. The document runs to 62 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword

Clause 4 (except 4.2), Clause 5 (except 5.5.12) and Clause 7 of this standard are mandatory; the rest is recommended.

This standard replaces GB 16669-1996, General technical specifications for components of carbon dioxide fire extinguishing systems.

Compared with GB 16669-1996, the main changes in this standard are as follows:

- "Requirements for drafting instructions for use" has been added (see Clause 8);

- "Annexes" have been added (see the annexes);

- the content of the clause on normative references has been modified (Clause 2 of the 1996 edition, Clause 2 of this edition);

- the content of the clause on terms and definitions has been modified (Clause 3 of the 1996 edition, Clause 3 of this edition);

- the model designation method for the system has been added (4.2 of this edition);

- the content of the clause on requirements has been modified (Clause 4 of the 1996 edition, Clause 5 of this edition);

- the content of the clause on test methods has been modified (Clause 5 of the 1996 edition, Clause 6 of this edition);

- the content of the clause on inspection rules has been modified (Clause 6 of the 1996 edition, Clause 7 of this edition).

Annexes A to U of this standard are normative.
