Scope

GB 15082-2008 is the English-translated version of 汽车用车速表.

GB 15082 governs the vehicle speedometer, and its central provision is the asymmetry of the permitted error: the indicated speed may never be lower than the true speed, but may exceed it within a defined margin. That rule is why speedometers read high. The standard sets the general requirements, the indication error limits and the test specification. It is short — a thousand words — but mandatory for every car sold in China. From 1 July 2027 it is replaced by GB 15082-2026, which extends the subject to motorcycles. Issued on 16 April 2008, in force since 1 October 2008. This page is published from the official record of the standard held by the Chinese standards administration: the identification, the dates, the classification and the edition it replaces are taken from there. The clause text, the tables and the numeric limits are not reproduced on this page — they are in the document itself, which is delivered in full in English translation.
