Scope

GB 12441-2018 is the English-translated version of 饰面型防火涂料.

GB 12441-2018 specifies the terms and definitions, classification and designation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, instructions for use, and packaging, transport and storage of finishing fire resistant coatings - decorative coatings for combustible substrates such as wood, fibreboard and paperboard that expand and foam in a fire to form an insulating layer - and applies to all types of such coatings.

Products are classified as water-based (S) or solvent-based (R) and designated SMT-S/A style.

Table 1 sets twelve indicators, among them fineness <= 90 µm, surface drying <= 5 h and hard drying <= 24 h, impact resistance >= 20 cm, fire endurance time >= 15 min, mass loss <= 5.0 g, char volume <= 25 cm3 and a difficult flammability test with mean residual length >= 150 mm and flue gas temperature not above 200 °C. The physical tests refer to the GB/T 17xx paint film methods, the fire endurance time is measured by the large panel burning method (Annex A) and mass loss and char volume by the small chamber burning method (Annex B); inspection rules cover factory and type inspection, sampling and judgement.

5.2, 8.1 and Clause 7 are mandatory, the rest recommended. It replaces GB 12441-2005, adding classification and designation, revising the performance indicators, replacing the tunnel burning method with the difficult flammability test of GB/T 8625 and revising the inspection rules.

5.2, 8.1 and Clause 7 of this standard are mandatory; the rest are recommended.

This standard is drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB 12441-2005, Finishing fire resistant coating.

Compared with GB 12441-2005, apart from editorial changes, the main technical changes in this standard are as follows:

- the classification and designation of products have been added (see Clause 4);

- some of the physical and chemical performance indicators of finishing fire resistant coatings have been modified, and the defect categories in the technical requirements have been deleted (see 5.2; 4.2 of the 2005 edition);

- the tunnel burning method has been replaced by the difficult flammability test (see 6.11; Annex B of the 2005 edition);

- the inspection rules have been modified (see Clause 7; Clause 6 of the 2005 edition).
