1 Scope

This section YS/T 820 specifies the method for determination of nickel laterite calcium and magnesium content.

This section applies to the determination of calcium and magnesium content of nickel laterite ore. Measurement range. Ca. 0.05% to 0.30%; Mg. 0.40% to 2.50%.

2 Method summary

Samples with hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid and perchloric acid decomposition. Dissolved salts with hydrochloric acid, in dilute hydrochloric acid and strontium salt solution medium, in an atomic absorption Close spectrometer at a wavelength of 422.7nm, using air - acetylene flame measured absorbance calcium, calculated. Atomic absorption spectrometer wavelength 285.2nm at using air - acetylene flame measured absorbance magnesium calculated amount of magnesium.

3 Reagents

Unless otherwise indicated in the analysis using only confirmed for the gifted class pure reagents and distilled or deionized water or equivalent purity.

3.1 hydrochloride (rho1.19g/mL).

Nitrate 3.2 (rho1.42g/mL).

3.3 Hydrofluoric acid (rho1.15g/mL).

3.4 perchloric acid (rho1.67g/mL).

3.5 nitric acid (11).

3.6 strontium salt solution (200g/L). Weigh 50g strontium chloride in 400mL beaker, dissolved in water and transferred to 250mL volumetric flask with water Dilute to volume, and mix.

3.7 Calcium standard stock solution. Weigh 0.6996g of calcium oxide (wCaO>=99.99%, previously at 105 °C ± 5 °C under drying 2h, dry place Desiccator, cooled to room temperature), placed in a beaker of 250mL, was added 20mL of hydrochloric acid (3.1), cover sheet pan, low dissolution was complete, remove the cooling to room temperature and transferred to 1000mL volumetric flask, dilute with water to volume, and mix. This solution 1mL containing 0.5mg of calcium.

3.8 Calcium standard solution. Pipette 20.00mL calcium standard stock solution (3.7) in 500mL volumetric flask, dilute with water to volume, and mix.

This solution 1mL containing 20µg calcium.

3.9 Magnesium standard stock solution. Weigh 0.1658g of magnesium oxide (wMgO>=99.99%, previously at 800 °C ± 5 °C to constant weight by burning and dry Desiccator, cooled to ambient temperature) was placed in a beaker of 250mL, 20mL of nitric acid was added (3.5) to dissolve completely get rid of nitrogen oxides and heated to boiling, taking Cool to room temperature and transferred to 1000mL volumetric flask, dilute with water to volume, and mix. This solution 1mL containing 0.1mg of magnesium.

3.10 Magnesium standard solution. Pipette 20.00mL magnesium standard stock solution (3.9), in 200mL volumetric flask, dilute to the mark, mix uniform. This solution 1mL containing 10µg magnesium.
