1 Scope

This section YS/T 820 specifies the method for the determination of cadmium content of nickel laterite ore.

This section applies to the determination of nickel laterite ore cadmium content. Measurement range. 0.0050% to 0.50%.

2 Method summary

Sample decomposition with hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid and perchloric acid. In dilute nitric acid medium, atomic absorption spectrometer at a wavelength of 228.8nm, Using air - acetylene flame measured absorbance cadmium.

3 Reagents

Unless otherwise indicated in the analysis using only recognized as analytical reagent and distilled or deionized water or equivalent purity.

3.1 hydrochloride (rho1.19g/mL).

Nitrate 3.2 (rho1.42g/mL).

3.3 Hydrofluoric acid (rho1.15g/mL).

3.4 perchloric acid (rho1.67g/mL).

3.5 nitric acid (11).

3.6 cadmium standard stock solution. Weigh 1.0000g metal cadmium (wCd>=99.995%) in 250mL beaker, add 20mL of nitric acid (3.5), covered with a watch glass and heated until completely dissolved and cooled to room temperature. Moved into 1000mL volumetric flask, dilute with water to volume, and mix. this 1mL 1mg solution containing cadmium.

3.7 Cadmium standard solution. Pipette 5.00mL cadmium standard stock solution (3.6) in 250mL volumetric flask, was added 25mL of nitric acid (3.5), Dilute with water to volume, and mix. This solution 1mL containing 20µg cadmium.

4 Instrument

Atomic absorption spectrometer, with a cadmium hollow cathode lamp.

Under optimum working conditions for those who can reach the following indicators can be used.

--- Characteristic concentration. In line with the measuring solution matrix solution, characteristic concentration of cadmium should not exceed 0.02µg/mL.

--- Precision. the highest concentration of the standard solution with 10 times the absorbance measured, and the standard deviation should not exceed the average absorbance 1.0%; the lowest concentration of standard solution used (instead of "zero" standard solution) absorbance measured 10 times, and the standard deviation should not exceed the maximum 0.5% high concentration of the standard average absorbance.

--- Linear curve. the curve according to concentration, divided into five sections, the difference between the absorbance of the absorbance difference between the highest and the lowest segment Ratio should not be less than 0.90.
