Part 2 of the series on chemical analysis of bauxite ores describes the determination of silicon dioxide content by the molybdenum blue spectrophotometric method and by the gravimetric-molybdenum blue spectrophotometric method. It applies to silicon dioxide in bauxite ores. The molybdenum blue method covers 0.25% to 25.00% by mass fraction, and the gravimetric-molybdenum blue method covers 15.00% to 50.00%. Where the two ranges overlap, the gravimetric-molybdenum blue method is the referee method.

It is used by bauxite mines and traders, by alumina refineries, and by analytical and inspection laboratories. It is voluntary, as the /T in the code shows. It was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, issued on 1 June 2026 and takes effect on 1 December 2026. It replaces YS/T 575.2-2007 and YS/T 575.3-2007.
