NB/T 42034-2014 is the recommended Chinese energy industry standard giving design guidance for small hydropower units that run on an isolated grid.

It is written for one or more such units, each of not more than 10 MW and with a runner diameter below 3.3 m, forming a small isolated network in which the units themselves take on frequency regulation and pressure regulation.

The guidance therefore concerns the design choices that follow from islanded operation rather than from running in parallel with a large system. It carries classification K55 and ICS 27.140, and it quotes GB/T 9652.1, GB/T 10585, GB/T 14285, NB/T 35010 and SL 229. Issued on 29 June 2014, it has applied since 1 November 2014.
