NB/T 20421.1-2017 opens the Chinese energy industry series on condition monitoring methods for cables important to safety in nuclear power plants, and carries the general provisions that the later parts build on.

Rather than describing one technique, this first part states the general requirements that any cable condition monitoring method has to satisfy. It is written for safety-critical cables in nuclear power plants and is equally usable for other plant equipment that contains organic or polymer materials.

The general part refers to GB/T 20087-2012 and to IEEE Std 323. It is a recommended standard of the National Energy Administration, classified F83. Issued on 10 February 2017, it has applied since 1 July 2017.
