Scope
JC/T 2166-2013 is the English-translated version of 夹层玻璃用聚乙烯醇缩丁醛(PVB)胶片.
JC/T 2166-2013 is the Chinese building materials industry standard for polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer, the plastic film bonded between two or more panes to make laminated safety glass.
It applies to PVB interlayer for architectural laminated glass and for automotive laminated glass (windscreens and side glazing), and may be used by reference for interlayers of other laminated glass.
The standard defines the visible defects of the film - crystal particles, ripples, bubbles, burnt points, impurities, oil drops and beads - and classifies the product by nominal thickness (0.38 mm, 0.76 mm, 1.52 mm), colour, application and storage condition.
It sets technical requirements on appearance, thickness and dimensions, surface roughness, moisture content, heat shrinkage, pummel value, tensile properties and optical performance, with test methods, inspection rules and requirements for marking, packaging, transportation and storage; Annex A describes the weathering test apparatus.
Issued for the first time, it has been in force since 1 September 2013 and is to be replaced by JC/T 2166-2026 from 1 February 2027.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard was proposed by China Building Materials Federation.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Architectural Glass of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 255).
Drafting organizations of this standard: China Building Material Test & Certification Center, Zhejiang Shengrui Plastic Co., Ltd.
This standard is issued for the first time.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, product classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, as well as marking, packaging, transportation and storage of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer for laminated glass.
This standard is applicable to polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer for architectural laminated glass and automotive laminated glass. Interlayers for other laminated glass may be used by reference.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 crystal particle
Crystal-like, colourless or slightly yellowish transparent spot-like matter appearing inside the interlayer; it is usually a substance of non-uniform optical density formed by uneven melting of the raw material in the melt or by additives during cooling and shaping.
3.2 ripple
Linear marks produced on the product surface by fluctuation of the cooling water surface during the production of the interlayer.
3.3 bubble
Gas in bubble form that was not completely expelled during the production of the interlayer and remains in the product.
3.4 burnt point
Spot that has decomposed and turned yellow or black during the production of the interlayer.
3.5 impurity
Other visible matter, incompatible with the interlayer, entrained in the interlayer product.
3.6 oil drop
Spot-like oil stain present on the surface of the interlayer.
3.7 bead
Tear-shaped dripped matter adhering to the surface of the product.
4 Product classification
4.1 By nominal thickness, the product is classified as 0.38 mm, 0.76 mm and 1.52 mm.
4.2 By colour, the product is classified as colourless interlayer and coloured interlayer.
4.3 By application, the product is classified as interlayer for architectural use and interlayer for automotive use.
4.4 By storage condition, the product is classified as interlayer stored at room temperature and interlayer for refrigerated storage.
5 Technical requirements
5.1 The technical requirements of interlayer for architectural laminated glass shall comply with Table 1.
