1 Foreword

JB/T 1708-2010 was issued by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China on 11 February 2010 and has been in force since 1 July 2010.

It replaces the earlier edition JB/T 1708-1991.

2 Scope

JB/T 1708-2010 covers packing glands, gland sleeves and gland plates and is a recommended standard of the Chinese machinery industry. For each of these parts it lays down the structure, the basic dimensions, the materials and the requirements, and the application it gives is the stuffing box fitted with gland, sleeve and plate. The entry records five superseded documents: JB/T 1708-1991, JB/T 5206.1-1991, JB/T 5206.2-1991, JB/T 5206.3-1991 and JB/T 5207-1991. Among the standards it quotes are GB/T 1220-2007, GB/T 5231-2001, GB/T 11352-2009 and GB/T 12226-2005. It is classified J16 in the Chinese scheme and 23.060 in the international one.
