Chemical cleaning and prefilming of cooling water systems is the subject of HG/T 3778-2005, a recommended chemical industry standard. It addresses systems whose heat exchange efficiency has fallen because of scaling, corrosion, biological fouling and other water quality problems, with consequences for output and product quality, and it covers cleaning and prefilming carried out while the production unit stays under normal operating conditions. It is written above all for systems that run continuously and cannot be shut down for maintenance cleaning, so that scale, rust and biological fouling can be removed and heat transfer restored. Newly built or overhauled systems opened for cleaning are covered as well, together with large and medium central air conditioning plants in service, and prefilming after a low pH incident. It was issued on 10 July 2005 and came into force on 1 January 2006.

This standard applies to the cooling water system due to scaling, corrosion and bio- fouling and other water quality impairment, which results in heat exchange efficiency of water cooling equipment decreased, affecting production output, quality, the production unit under normal operating conditions, the cooling water system for chemical cleaning, pre-film, especially for the long run and can not shut down for maintenance cleaning of the cooling water system, the lifting of dirt, rust, dirt and other biological barriers, to improve or restore basic heat transfer efficiency of heat exchange equipment, also apply to new construction or major overhaul after the cooling water system to open, chemical cleaning, well as large and medium-sized central air conditioning running in no chemical cleaning, pre-film. Pre-film processing is also suitable for cooling water systems complement the low PH membrane treatment after the accident.
