Scope

GB/Z 44859-2024 is the English-translated version of 武术 太极剑.

This document covers the taiji sword used in wushu: its dimensions, its proportions, the materials it is made from and the characteristics required of it in practice and in competition. The taiji sword is a piece of sports equipment that has to satisfy two things at once. It must be safe and consistent enough to be handled in a graded competition, and it must keep the balance and flex that make the traditional forms possible - a sword that is too rigid or too heavy at the tip changes the movement it was designed for. Specifying it is how both are held together. Issued on 26 October 2024 by SAMR and SAC as a guiding technical document, in force from 1 February 2025, under the technical jurisdiction of the General Administration of Sport of China. It is the companion of GB/Z 44858 on taiji clothing.
