GB/Z 28496-2012 is a guidance document, not a mandatory standard, on how to run consumer panel tests on household and similar electrical appliances.

It is an identical adoption of IEC/TR 61592-2003 and treats panel testing as a complement to technical tests and physical measurement, useful where technical testing is insufficient, where overall performance has to be judged, or where features involving people must be assessed, such as operation, cleaning, ergonomics and instructions for use.

Panel testing is defined as having a selected group of people evaluate part or all of a product, and the document covers the purpose of the test, the role of the panel leader, panel make-up and training, and the statistical methods to be settled beforehand.

A note adds that its provisions may also serve other product categories. It was issued on 29 June 2012.
