Scope

GB/T 7815-2008 is the English-translated version of 工业用季戊四醇.

GB/T 7815-2008 specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage for pentaerythritol for industrial use, and prints its molecular formula C(CH2OH)4 and its molecular weight of 136.14, taken on the 2005 international relative atomic masses.

Clause 1 states that the standard applies to the production, testing and marketing of industrial pentaerythritol produced from formaldehyde and acetaldehyde as raw materials with sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide as the catalyst; the foreword records that this wording replaced the scope of the 1995 edition, which applied to industrial pentaerythritol other than that added to explosives.

Clause 2, Normative references, cites GB/T 191-2008, GB/T 601-2002, GB/T 603-2002, GB/T 617-2006, GB/T 1250, GB/T 6678-2003, GB/T 6679-2003, GB/T 6682-1992 and GB/T 7531-1987.

Clause 3, Classification and nomenclature, divides industrial pentaerythritol by purity into four types, 98 %, 95 %, 90 % and 86 %, designated 98, 95, 90 and 86.

Clause 4, Requirements, gives the appearance as white crystals and sets the technical requirements by type in Table 1, among them a pentaerythritol mass fraction of at least 98.0 % for type 98 and, for the other three types, a pentaerythritol content expressed as C(CH2OH)4 of at least 95.0 %, 90.0 % and 86.0 %, hydroxyl mass fractions of at least 48.5 %, 47.5 %, 47.0 % and 46.0 %, and a final melting point of at least 250 degrees C required of type 98 only.

The draft breaks off after Table 1, so the page shows nothing of the clauses that follow.

The foreword states that against the 1995 edition the standard adds the chapter on classification and naming (Chapter 3), adds the appearance to the technical requirements (4.1) and the final melting point (4.2), replaces the former superior, first-class and qualified product grades with the purity types, adds a gas chromatographic determination of pentaerythritol which serves as the arbitration method for type 98 (5.3.2), measures the final melting point by a melting point method (5.8) and adds the chapter on inspection rules (Chapter 6), and that Appendix A is an informative annex.

The foreword also states that the standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association, is administered by the organic chemistry subcommittee of the national standardization technical committee (SAC/TC63/SC2), and was first released in May 1987 and amended for the first time in December 1995.

It replaces GB/T 7815-1995, was issued on 2008-05-14 and has applied since 2008-10-01.

Foreword

This standard replaces GB/T 7815-1995 "industrial pentaerythritol." This standard and GB/T 7815-1995 compared to the main changes are as follows.

--- "Range" from the "This standard applies to explosives other than the addition of pentaerythritol industry" to "This standard applies to formaldehyde and acetaldehyde As raw material, sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide as the catalyst for the production of industrial pentaerythritol production, testing and marketing of " (See Chapter 1);

--- Increase "category and named" chapter (see Chapter 3);

--- Technical requirements increase the appearance (see 4.1);

--- Industrial pentaerythritol product classification superior products, first-class products, qualified for the modification of industrial purity by typing pentaerythritol (1995 Edition Chapter 3, edition 4.2);

--- To increase the melting point of the final project (see 4.2);

--- Technical requirements by the content of mono-pentaerythritol superior product >=93%, first-class product >=86%, qualified product does not control the modification of pentaerythritol Content 98 >=98.0%, pentaerythritol [in C (CH2OH) 4 meter] content 95 >=95.0%, 90 Ji >=90.0%, 86 >=86.0%, hydroxyl content of >=47% by the high-class product, first-class product >=47%, >=46% qualified products modified to 98 >=48.5%, 95 Ji >=47.5%, 90 Ji >=47.0%, 86 Ji >=46.0%, loss on drying by the high-class product, first-class goods <=0.5%, qualified products <=0.7% revised to 98 <=0.20%, 95 grade 90, 86 <=0.50%, Residue on ignition by a superior Products, first-class products, qualified <=0.1% revised to 98 <=0.05%, 95 grade 90 and 86 <=0.10%, phthalic Resin coloring degree (Fe, Co, Cu standard color solution number) by the superior product <=2, first-class goods <=4, qualified product <=6 revised to 98 <=1, 95, 90 <=2,86 level <=4, eventually melting point 98 >=250 °C, no other level control (1995 Edition Chapter 3, Excerpts 4.2);

Standard Test Method for Determination --- pentaerythritol increased by gas chromatography, and as 98 of the Arbitration Act (see 5.3.2);

--- A final melting point measurement method using Melting Point method (see 5.8);

--- Increased "inspection rules" section (see Chapter 6). Appendix A of this standard is an informative annex. The standard proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.
