Scope

GB/T 7462-2026 is the English-translated version of 表面活性剂 发泡力的测定 改进罗氏泡沫法.

GB/T 7462-2026 — This document describes a method for measuring the foaming power of surfactants. This document applies to all surfactants. This document is not applicable to measuring the foaming power of extremely dilute solutions of surfactants, such as river water containing surfactants.

Note. For solutions of easily hydrolyzed surfactants, the hydrolysis products may accumulate in the liquid film and affect foam durability, therefore the measurement results may be unreliable.

Damn. The durability of liquid films is highly sensitive to the presence of insoluble particles. Therefore, when measuring surfactant-based complexes (whose solutions are typically not...) when the foaming power is completely dissolved, extra caution is required.

Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".

Drafting.

This document supersedes GB/T 7462-1994, "Determination of Foaming Power of Surfactants – Modified Ross-Miles Method".

Compared with GB/T 7462-1994, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

---The sampling method has been changed (see Chapter 6, Chapter 6 of the 1994 edition);

---The preparation of calcium hardness water has been modified (see Chapter 7, Chapter 7 of the 1994 edition).

This document is modified to adopt ISO 696:1975 "Determination of foaming power of surfactants - Improved Ross-Miles method".

This document has undergone significant structural adjustments compared to ISO 696:1975.A table comparing the structural numbering changes between the two documents is available below.

Appendix A.

This document differs significantly from ISO 696:1975 in several technical aspects. The relevant clauses are indicated in vertical single-line margins.

The lines (|) are marked. A summary of these technical differences and their reasons can be found in Appendix B.

Please note that some content in this document may involve patents. The issuing organization of this document assumes no responsibility for identifying patents.

This document was proposed by the China National Light Industry Council.

This document is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Standardization of Surfactants and Detergents (SAC/TC272).

Introduction

The methods specified in this document can be used to test one of the characteristics of a surfactant, which is essential for assessing its potential uses.

The limitations specified in this document may not necessarily correspond to actual usage conditions. Therefore, the results obtained may not accurately reflect the product's performance in practice.

Performance in application. The use of this method and the evaluation of results depend on the specific objectives. This method is particularly effective for products with low foaming power.

The method may yield results that have no practical significance.

Determination of the foaming power of surfactants Improved Roche foaming method

1 Scope

This document describes a method for measuring the foaming power of surfactants.
