1 Scope

GB/T 7391-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the vocabulary of a research ship - the laboratories and the moon pool, the A-frame and the winches, the dynamic positioning and the quiet-ship requirements, and the survey and sampling operations the vessel exists for. It replaces GB/T 7391-2002, in a period when China went from a handful of research ships to one of the largest fleets afloat. It was issued on 2 December 2025 and has been in force since 1 July 2026, replacing GB/T 7391-2002. The document is under the responsibility of the Standardization Administration of China.
