Scope
GB/T 7223-2026 is the English-translated version of 畜禽品种(配套系)荣昌猪.
GB/T 7223-2026 is the Chinese national standard for the Rongchang pig, one of the best known of China's indigenous breeds. It comes from Rongchang District in Chongqing and Longchang City in Sichuan, and it is recognised at sight: white coat, with black patches of varying size around the eyes and on the head, from which the traditional coat-colour names are taken. The breed is valued for meat quality, for its early sexual maturity, for its bristles and for its tolerance of roughage, and its uniform genetic background has also made it one of the few Chinese pig breeds used as a laboratory animal. This edition sets out the breed origin and characteristics, the body shape and appearance, the adult weight and body measurements, the production performance across reproduction, growth, fattening, carcass and muscle quality, the measurement methods and the basic requirements an animal must meet to be used for breeding. It replaces GB/T 7223-2008.

1 Scope
This document specifies the breed origin and characteristics, body shape, adult weight and body size, production performance, and basic requirements for breeding of Rongchang pigs. The determination method was described. This document applies to the identification of Rongchang pigs.
3 Terms and Definitions
This document does not contain any terms or definitions that need to be defined.
4.Variety origin and characteristics Rongchang pig is a superior local breed in my country, originating from Rongchang District of Chongqing Municipality and Longchang City of Sichuan Province, and mainly distributed in Rongchang District of Chongqing Municipality. The area includes Tongliang District, Dazu District, and Wulong District, as well as Gulin County, Longchang City, and Luxian County in Sichuan Province. It possesses unique coat color characteristics, early sexual maturity, and high-quality meat. It has advantages such as excellent quality, good bristles, and tolerance to roughage.
5.Physical appearance Rongchang pigs have white hair, mostly with black patches of varying sizes around their eyes and on their heads. Based on the size of the black patches, they are classified as "golden-rimmed eyes" and "small black eyes." For classifications of coat color such as "large black eyes," "small black head," and "large black head," see Appendix A. The head is of moderate size, the face is slightly concave, the ears are medium-sized and drooping, and the forehead... The body is wrinkled and has whorls of hair. It is relatively long and well-proportioned, with a slightly concave back and loins, a large and deep abdomen, and a slightly sloping rump. The limbs are slender and strong, and the mane is pure white. The pig is tough and has 10 to 14 teats. See Appendix B for a photo of the Rongchang pig.
6.Adult weight and body size The weight and body size of adult boars (23-25 months old) and adult sows (third litter, 2 months of gestation) should meet the requirements of Table 1.
7 Production performance
7.1 Reproductive performance Boars first exhibit sexual behavior at 60-80 days of age, reach mating age at 120-150 days of age, and reach mating weight at 30-45 kg. Sows' first sexual behavior... The optimal age for mating is 80-120 days, the optimal age for breeding is 150-180 days, and the optimal weight for breeding is 50-65 kg. The farrowing and weaning traits of sows should conform to Table 2. Requirements.
7.2 Growth and Development The digestible energy of the diet was
13.18 MJ/kg and the crude protein content was 16.0% during days 35-90; the digestible energy of the diet was during days 91-180. Under a nutritional level of
12.97 MJ/kg and 12.5% crude protein, the main growth and development performance of Rongchang pigs should meet the requirements of Table 3.
7.3 Fattening performance The digestible energy of a 20kg~60kg diet is
12.97 MJ/kg, and the crude protein content is 12.5%. The digestible energy of a 60kg~90kg diet is... At a nutritional level of
12.55 MJ/kg and 11.5% crude protein, the average daily weight gain was 497.7 g ±
31.4 g, and the feed conversion ratio was 3.84 ± 0.42. A 90kg live animal has a back fat thickness of 37.5mm ± 6.5mm.
7.4 Carcass characteristics Slaughter weight was
2.17 kg, dressing percentage was (74.99 ± 2.64)%, carcass weight was
2.75 kg, and carcass length was 86.4cm ± 3.2cm, average backfat thickness 44.3mm ± 4.2mm, eye muscle area 20.24cm^2 ± 1.97cm^2, carcass lean meat percentage (41.04 ± 3.2cm). 2.46%).
7.5 Muscle Quality Slaughtered at a body weight of
2.72 kg, meat color L1 value 41.32 ± 6.96, meat color score 4.4 ± 0.6, marbling score 3.5 ± 0.7, pH 16.28±0.20, pH 245.83±0.15, drip loss (1.53±0.29)%, intramuscular fat content (3.84±0.75)%.
8 Determination Methods
8.1 Measurement of adult body weight, body size, and reproductive performance Perform in accordance with the provisions of NY/T 820.
8.2 Growth and development performance testing Perform in accordance with the provisions of NY/T 822.
8.3 Determination of carcass traits Perform in accordance with the provisions of NY/T 825.
8.4 Muscle quality determination Perform in accordance with the provisions of NY/T 821.
9 Basic requirements
It should meet the following requirements.
a) The body shape and appearance should conform to the characteristics of this variety, and the growth and development should be normal;
